Brown Angel comes at you with three levels. At the heart the beer is layer upon layer of pure, delicious malt. Columbus and Amarillo hops add an intense hop presence while a final layer of East Kent Goldings delivers a delicate floral finish. This is NOT your old school brown, but a rather sexy American interpretation.

From the bottle poured a brown color with a small amount of head. Light toasted malty flavor with a lingering finish.

Clown Shoes Brown Angel is a dim, reddish brown ale with a thick, bubbly, yellowish foam that lasts all night and leaves solid foam on the glass. It has a chocolate and coffee aroma with a good dose of citrus, grass and perfume. Itís pretty full bodied, super silky and smooth. The finish is soft and delicate. It leaves the mouth feeling almost a little tingly, like after eating a mint. It has a nice, full, well-blended, well-balanced flavor. Itís very chocolatey with some dark roast coffee. The hops provide just enough bitterness to zip the taste up and keep me coming back for another sip. It tastes a little wooden, but not resiny. Thereís a hint of lemon peel. There seems to be a hint of mint at the finish. Wow, I donít know if Iíve ever had a brown ale like this before. This is straight-up delicious. I canít put this beer down and when itís empty, Iím going to cry.

POurs light brown with notes of light malt that shwocases a deeper carmelized sugar base that drives some decnt hops. Layers are there as you get the malt, bitter hops, and then some nuanced coffee and choclate.

22oz bottle. Chestnut brown pour, dark malts lead a pretty underwhelming aroma. Flavor is roasted maltiness, and light chocolate. another example of a style that doesnít necessarily needs to be imperialized.

Poured into a pint glass from a bomber. Pours a dark brown, foamy head. Has a hoppy/alcohol aroma. Tastes better than it smells. Fairly smoth for a double brown.

Bottled. Dark brown color, medium brownish head. Aroma of caramel malt, bit fruity, mocha, chocolat, lots of brown malt? Slight floral and citrussy hops. Slightly sweet, slightly roasted, quite malty, citrussy bitterness. Quite dry finish. Nice stuff.

650 mL bottle. One of the best browns Iíve tried. Looks and smells the part, and the flavour is rich and filled with nuts, chocolate and caramel. There are clearly some earthy Brithops in there, and there seems to be a touch of piney American hops in there as well. The only drawback is that the body could be a little fuller. Overall, an excellent example of the style.

P: 4/5. Clear rich garnet. Minimal pale brown head, receding quickly and unsupported. A: 3/5. Rich brown. Malty. Coffee. Tobacco. Alcohol. F: 7/10. Rich roasted malty. Lots of tobacco, tar, deep roast notes. M: 3/5. Pretty thin. Some amount of lingering on the tongue in flavor, a kinda dirty bitterness. Not wonderfully pleasant. O: 6/10. Okay.

Bottle, bought @ Havnens Vin & Tobak, Vejle.
Clear redish chestnut with a lovely, creamy, off-white head. Aroma has caramel, chocolate and fresh peachy hops. Lowish carbonation, dry and pleasant creamy mouthfeel. Flavour is dry, sweet, lots of fat milky chocolate, light roasted malts and hazelnuts. Good bitterness with notes of pine and peach. Yum.
