COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Brown Angel comes at you with three levels. At the heart the beer is layer upon layer of pure, delicious malt. Columbus and Amarillo hops add an intense hop presence while a final layer of East Kent Goldings delivers a delicate floral finish. This is NOT your old school brown, but a rather sexy American interpretation.

Brown colored, moderate head, decent lace/retention. Typical brown ale aroma - nut, caramel, light chocolate. Also faint notes of floral hops and alcohol. Medium bodied, moderate sweetness, low alcohol.

Good dark amber / brown pour with plenty of head. Great color and good sweet aromas. Taste is kind of different in this one. Good overall to me but not the smoothness and malts I expect in a brown ale.

22 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 6/19/2013. Pours nearly opaque dark reddish brown color with a 2 finger dense and rocky khaki head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass. Aromas of grapefruit, orange zest, lemon zest, tangerine, chocolate, caramel, toast, toffee, light nuttiness, light coffee, floral, pine, and floral earthiness. Damn nice aromas with good balance and complexity of hop and dark malt notes; with good strength. Taste of grapefruit, orange zest, lemon zest, tangerine, chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, toast, toffee, light nuttiness, floral, pine, and floral/toasted earthiness. Fair amount of pine bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of citrus, citrus zest, chocolate, cocoa, caramel, coffee, toast, toffee, light nuttiness, floral, pine, and floral/toasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Damn nice balance and complexity of hop and dark malt flavors; with a good malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a lightly creamy, crisp, and moderately sticky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a slight warming present after the finish. Overall this is an excellent hoppy brown ale! All around great balance and complexity of hop and dark malt flavors; and very smooth and crisp to drink. A very enjoyable offering.

Deep brown color, and a thin head that stays around a while. Hoppy for a brown ale, but not overly so.

Just way, way too hoppy for a Brown Ale. I suppose I should’ve heeded the warning that told me that Brown Angel was a "sexy American version" but I had thought that Clown Shoes already brewed an India Pale Ale. It looks great and feels great, but it tastes like an imposter.

Drank out of 22oz bomber. Pours dark brown with a thin beige head. The nose has aromas of brown malt, toffee, nuts, chocolate. Mild toffee sweetness with a burst of roastiness and nuttiness from the malts. The body is light to medium with strong carbonation. The hops and malt roastiness are extremely well balanced. I pick up on some nice hop aroma on the backbone of is beer as well. Overall, a great beer with just the right amount of complexity.

Aroma of faint brown sugar, plum, apricot and rum. Solid brown with little foam and some hop residue. Subtle flavors of amber malts, burnt sugar, sweet, candied caramel and a very sweet molasses on the finish. Overall, a bit too sugary and sweet for my taste. I’d give this a B rating.

Pretty beer, great color, nice head, malty, dark malt, some hops apparent but balance is quite good. Alcohol is quite well hidden.
