4.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20 SPDickerman (424) - Texas, USA - FEB 2, 2012
Pours dark brown with a large tan head. Smells almost exclusively like bready malts with hints of hop notes. Taste is sweet, malty, hints of chocolate, caramel, toffee, with a nice mild hop profile. Medium-bodied with a smooth, wet texture and very soft mouth-carbonation, Clown Shoes Brown Angel finishes with a nice, mild sweetness.

Clown Shoes Brown Angel is a dim, reddish brown ale with a thick, bubbly, yellowish foam that lasts all night and leaves solid foam on the glass. It has a chocolate and coffee aroma with a good dose of citrus, grass and perfume. It’s pretty full bodied, super silky and smooth. The finish is soft and delicate. It leaves the mouth feeling almost a little tingly, like after eating a mint. It has a nice, full, well-blended, well-balanced flavor. It’s very chocolatey with some dark roast coffee. The hops provide just enough bitterness to zip the taste up and keep me coming back for another sip. It tastes a little wooden, but not resiny. There’s a hint of lemon peel. There seems to be a hint of mint at the finish. Wow, I don’t know if I’ve ever had a brown ale like this before. This is straight-up delicious. I can’t put this beer down and when it’s empty, I’m going to cry.

I really like this beer. I’m not a huge brown ale guy but, I do enjoy them. This one is special because it’s essentially and IBA - India Brown Ale. All the best qualities of a brown ale, and the hoppiness of a great IPA. Bottle. Aroma has lots of chocolate and coffee notes. Taste is the same but, with a big old taste of citrus hops. Just a wonderful mix of the two. Nice hoppy finish with a taste of chocolate on your tongue making you wanting more. I’ve had the style before but, this is a standout. I’d get it again in a minute!

Bottle from Vino’s. Pours a beautiful brown colour which shines an amber red colour in the light. Thick yellowish, light tan head and a hoppy pine aroma balanced very nicely with coffee, chocolate and roasty malt. Hops are quite upfront again flavour-wise with pine, pineapple and grapefruit leading into roast espresso coffee. Quite bitter with lingering alcohol, roasty malt and coffee again. Very tasty!

bottle courtesy of gen0sis, thank you! pours a crisp dark amber to light brown with a medium off white head. aroma has a ton of very nice hops, the hop profile is great throughout this brew. some light caramel, doughy and cinniamon roll notes balance the already balanced hop bill. the taste is too match, with a bit more maltiness present throughout, especially in the front. there are sweet syrupy notes in the back, and the hops are very pleasent. the aftertaste is a nice balance of light, sweet caramel maltiness and moderately bitter hop oils. the palate is great, fuller than expected, nice creamyness, oils and dryness, and goes down very very smooth. great stuff, hope to see this around more.

Poured from a 22 to a pint glass, it pours a deep brown with thick tan creamy head. Aroma is nutty and sweet, with a roasty nutty chocolate flavor. Not generally a fan of brown ales, this is very creamy, smooth and an easy drink. Taste is smoky, somewhat burnt nutty, malty flavor that is very smooth. One of the better brown ales I have tried to date.

Pleasantly surprised with Clown Shoes. This new brew was released in February of 2011 and its a winner. Pours a hazy brown with a pillowy, tan head. Aromas strong of coffee and chocolate. Medium body, with with a rather bitter finish. Lots of chocolate and coffee notes. Overall, this brown will not disappoint. Almost like a hybrid of an IPA and chocolate stout.

22 oz. bottle served in snifter- served an almost transparent very darkened brown with hints of ruby shading, solid foamy off tan head formed, laced- soft, yet firm, like booty. Thick aroma of raisons, plums, dark caramel, slightly roasted malt, with hops trying to make itself know amongst the crowd. Hits the mouth with wide and lucious body, malt was slightly sweetened but seems to be cut with chocolate, middle holds up fine, finish winks at you wanting to you try more. I don’t see what’s so offensive about the label- perhaps it’s for the snots that don’t know how to use their equipment- 2 minute miracle men and "layers" combined. Being in several interracial relationships during the course of my life, one was one of the best lovers I ever had. Almost 10 years after those times, I still get a smile about some of the stuff we did... DAMN it’s hot in here... thanks for the memories, and damn good beer!!!

Nice brown color . Roasty-hoppy in both aroma and taste, especially for a brown ale.
