Brown Angel comes at you with three levels. At the heart the beer is layer upon layer of pure, delicious malt. Columbus and Amarillo hops add an intense hop presence while a final layer of East Kent Goldings delivers a delicate floral finish. This is NOT your old school brown, but a rather sexy American interpretation.

Not too many brewers get the brown+hops thing right. This is pretty decent. Still prefer straight brown as the mix never feels quite right. Pours dark brown with clingy tan foam. Nice heavy malt aroma mixed with some fruitiness. Taste gets a little wonky with some grapefruit bitter on top of the malt backbone. Finish is pretty smooth, though somewhat dry. Not bad.

Honestly would probably like this more if it was a straight forward brown, but this has a pretty interesting taste with its flowery bitter bite. Willing to try it again, and recommend other brown ale drinkers.

Yep, yep, I’m digging this hop notched brown. It does have a spruce and herby bite, but it is a welcome punctuation. Quite hop forward for a brown ale, but I do believe it works. Serving size 22oz bottle

From 650 ml bottle. Pours a clear mahogany brown with brick red highlights and a small but lasting tan head. Aromas of caramel, orange, flowers and a bit of chocolate. Taste starts out with raisins and baked apple before a substantial dark caramel and burnt orange bitterness sweeps in. Chocolate, coffee and flowers at the end. Full mouth feel and nicely balanced. Great orange aftertaste. Great stuff.

Bomber from Chez Sophie, Shrewsbury. Pours a deep brown with medium tan head. Aroma is citrus and nutty malts. Taste follows with hops shining through a light woodiness. Not what I would call a Brown Ale.

Bottle at home. Interesting beer. Pours dark brown with one finger of tan head. Aroma is malty, some roast, hoppy, very hoppy. Sort of an electrical tape aroma also. Flavor follows. Some dark chocolate, and brown sugar taste - molasses, also. Overall, decent, but not great.

Dark brown pour with small beige head. Aroma of roasted malts, caramel and hops. Taste of roasted malts, caramel, hops and a slight nuttiness. Medium bodied, medium carbonation and a slightly dry hop finish. Very average at best.

Bottle from Beermoth, Manchester. Dark brown pour with a beige head. Aromas of prunes, raisins, light sourness in there and a little chocolate. Quite a nutty tang in the flavour with subtle nuances of caramel, licorice toffee and treacle. Good bitter-sweet balance. Dry, light bitter finish.
