22oz bottle in a snifter. Pours black with a lacy, light tan head. Aroma of chocolate, roasted malts, some hints of coffee, and some floral and bitter hops. Flavor the same with a good amount of chocolate. Smooth texture. A pretty good beer but not the best of its style.

2.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20 JulienHuxley (1149) - Trois-Rivieres, Quebec, CANADA - MAY 26, 2012
Bomber. Black oily pour, no head. Aroma is dominated by chocolate, cocoa beans, powder, dark chocolate, chilies, alcohol. Taste is quite chocolatey, almost leaves a powdery cocoa aftertaste on the tongue, definitely can taste the alcohol and spice as well. Palate is probably the weak point here, not very good at all the beer kind of falls apart into a spicy boozy chocolaty mess. Not awful, but very hard to drink and poorly made.
4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 williamherbert (1065) - Syracuse, New York, USA - MAY 18, 2012
Crazy dark. The head isn’t very sticky; it looks very oily. Brown-to-black.
Smells of burnt malts and habaneros. Some peppery aromas (I actually sneezed after taking a big whiff). Dusty mocha chocolate. Dark berries and cocoa nibs.
Flavor is a pungent bit of stone fruits: dates and sugary raisins. Followed by a hint of mocha and hazelnut, but still with that pungent date flavor. There is a bit of a habanero burn on the way down, but it’s blunted by the rest of the sweeter flavors.
Smooth and oily on the way down. Absolutely perfect body for this style. It’s got both chocolate (but the dusty, mocha type) and some spicy flavors, but mostly it’s a darkly sweet concoction made of dates and dark fruits. Muy bueno.
3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 dmac (2658) - Toms River, New Jersey, USA - MAY 16, 2012
22oz bomber picked up at Capones and split with Dean. Poured a deep amber/brown body with a smaller bubbly light beige head. Aroma of chocolate pudding skins, vanilla and chocolate cake batter. Medium to slightly fuller bodied with soft carbonation and an average duration on the aftertaste. Flavor of chocolate, toast, and some dry orange rinds. Once again Clown Shoes comes through.
3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 FROTHINGSLOSH (3388) - GREENSBURG, Pennsylvania, USA - MAY 15, 2012
Sampled on draft at the House of 1000 beers this beer poured a black color with a large foamy dark tan head that lingered and left good lacing. The aroma was dry, roasty and a bit woody with moderate notes of coffee and cola. The flavor was dryish cola, cocoa, toasty malts and faint wood and booze. The finish was long and toasty with lingering cola and cocoa. Moderately full bodied. Solid.
