3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
12 oz bottle into snifter. Minneapolis.
Appearance: Very dark brown with a slightly ruby halo. Totally opaque. Poured with a thin layer of tan head, but quickly disappeared.
Aroma: As advertised - Chocolate, malts. Back notes of cinnamon, vanilla, and spiciness.
Taste: A touch of sweetness upfront followed by chocolaty bitterness.
Palate: Medium body. oily texture. Medium finish.
Overall: I really enjoyed drinking this beer. The spice adds an interesting dimension. Its generally well made. My biggest complaint is the body. In my opinion, a heavy, more syrupy body would have made this been fantastic.

Spicy. Hint of chile, oak. Reminds me of Prairie Artisan Ale. Not my cup of beer.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
12oz bottle. Pours a dark brown with very little head. Somewhat thin palate. Wasn’t that impressed at first but I find that it is quickly growing on me. Very unique chocolate stout with the addition of the chile and cinnamon. Nice change of pace.

Nose of chocolate, coffee, peppers. Light, rich flavor, chocolate, cocoa, coffee. The body is a bit too light, but a good beer.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Rich deep dark brown coloured body with a cola coloured glow at the bottom and a thin, single centimetre tall tan head at top. Aroma of oodles of chocolate, nuts, earth, alcohol, prunes, plums, raisins and a touch of light spices. Full-bodied; Super earthy and pungent alcohol warmth at first with a deep pit fruit, nutty and chocolatey flavour right behind, all with a ton of body. Aftertaste shows some deep characteristics with the nuts and earth by far the strongest, but the alcohol, roasted malt and chocolate also comes out very heavy. Overall, a rich and sweet beer with a lot of flavours throughout and a good dose of complexity. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from World Market in Arlington (Pentagon City), Virginia on 22-February-2014 for US$8,99 sampled at home here in Washington a few blocks away on 07-October-2014.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours black, slight brien hues on the edges, finger creamy khaki head, nice thin lacing. Aroma chocolate, earthy, bready and roasty malt, slight cinnamon, and burnt sugar. Taste roast astringency, chocolate, earthy, spicy cinnamon, burnt sugar, bit of coffee and dark fruit in the finish. Mouthfeel full body, low carbonation, slight hop and cinnamon bite, alcohol and roast astringency, finish is balanced, spiciness and roast lens dry feel. Overall different imperial stout, in a good way, very complex, builds on style’s foundation, and adds to it.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
"This well done brew is climbing the charts. Really nice all around. Big black beer with two finger mocha head. Aroma is predominantly chocolate and vanilla, but the spices and peppers are there. A little more pepper in the flavor. A thick brew, but smooth and no heat for a 9% brew. Possibly the best Clown Shoes beer."
