Roasted dark malts plus extra chocolate malts plus ancho chile plus cinnamon plus organic vanilla extract plus a chocolate eating, beer drinking, Clown Shoes wearing, multi limbed, gorgeous and glorious Mexican wrestler on the label. Thatís the recipe for a Chocolate Sombrero!

As the description boasts, one hell of a cool label on this bomber. Pours pitch black with a tan head. Initial aroma of vanilla, some ethyl acetate, chocolate, and roast. Not much chili-wise on the nose. Flavor is definitely milk chocolate, lactose, more vanilla and ethyl acetate, and then just at the back of the throat a slight chili burn. Nice, thick mouthfeel. Subtle and pretty damn nice.

Bomber from trade with crajun. Pours near pitch black with a small head that quickly fades. Aromas are cocoa, vanilla, cinnamon, and some other peppery spices. I think I smell lime too. Taste has some good flavor but very far from being rich. Dry cocoa, chili, vanilla, light roast. Finish is smooth with a small amount of chili pepper heat. Medium body, maybe a touch watery. Overall, an interesting mix of flavors but donít really have a desire to drink this again.

UPDATED: FEB 28, 2014 No bottling information.
Appearance: The body is black through and through with a short tan head that hangs around only for a moment. The head settles into a foamy coating though which accents the beer nicely.
Aroma: The aroma is complex with cocoa being prominent with a blend of earthy roasted coffee and cinnamon flavors. The vanilla is mild, but adds a nice accent to the already complex and inviting flavor.
Taste: The intro is slightly bittersweet with cocoa with a noticeable cinnamon, the cinnamon picks up steam through the mid taste along with a splash of vanilla and some earthy flavors. The finish is mild with cocoa lingering.
Palate: The body is creamy and soft, a bit nitro in feeling.
Overall: This is a very solid imperial stout and I appreciate the balance despite the amount of ingredients. This could have been a cluster fuck, but itís good. I think the flavor does get a bit congested though.

On tap at Joe Canals West Deptford.
Appearance: The body is jet black with a short and dense brown head, the head has poor retention and settles to a light coating with a creamy ring.
Aroma: The aroma is mild with vanilla, peppers and cinnamon balanced nicely. Thereís a whiff of cocoa puffs and roasted malts as well, but the other aromas are a bit more prominent. The aroma has decent strength.
Taste: The flavor has a mild malt base until the mid-taste, but the intro is flavorful. The mid-taste picks up some chocolate, cinnamon and peppers, nicely balanced and layered. The finish is where I get most of the vanilla, which adds to the flavors of the mid-taste. Lingering I get cinnamon and the milk left over from cocoa puffs with a slight burn on my lips.
Palate: Full-bodied with mild carbonation.
Overall: I like this beer for everything that it is. I like the balance and the multitude of flavors, but I donít love it. I think that itís certainly a worthwhile stout though, one I would buy again.
