4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Very strong smell of chocolate and cocoa. Pitch black, with dark brown head. Strangely watery to start with. Aroma of chocolate (somewhat artificial), coffee, ash, tar. Very sweet, somewhat bitter. Texture is ashy dry, heavy finish. Carbon is flat but plentiful. Less watery when warmer.

OK. So the idea of using ancho chiles in a beer really sounds good because...well, anchoís are excellent in cooking. Combine that with the though of chocolate, cinnamon and vanilla...sounds like the makings of a beer with potential.
It was ok, not good, not great. It seemed to really lag in delivering a really great beer, and slightly muddled/lost flavors. The aroma has that dry/powdered chocolate Hershey tin aroma, weak notes of coffee/roast, woody in a tree bark kind of way and some alcohol. The flavor beefs up the interest in the beer with a chocolate/vanilla profile. The ancho chile was REALLY, REALLY buried and I found no cinnamon flavors/aromas anywhere in this beer. Finish was on the astringent side. Far from memorable. Barely average.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours a thick, very dark ruby brown color with a dense, dark caramel colored head. Aromas of chocolate and dark roasted, lightly smoky malt. Thick, smooth, nearly syrupy mouthfeel. A fine, but sharp carbonation scrub gets accentuated by the alcohol warmth. The chocolate isnít quite as prominent in the flavor as it is the nose. Some mildly tart cherry emerges midway. A bit of alcohol appears late, but nothing off-putting. Good stout.

4.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Pours an opaque, charcoal-black with a light beige head with a lightly syrupy caramel/vanilla nose. Solid chocolate overall flavor and a delightfully-full mouthfeel. The ancho/cinnamon notes note are mild and perfectly balanced with a light ethanol outbreath. Likely pairings would include carne asada, hot panang curry and spicy chocolate desserts.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bomber from Total Wine in Sacramento, CA. Pours very dark brown with a slight tan head. Aromas of chocolate, chilies and arguably cinnamon. Flavor is chocolate, cinnamon, chilies and roast dark malt. It all works very well together. Quite tasty. Finishes a bit earthy chocolate and arguably not really sweet.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours a pretty black with creamy of white head. Wonderful aromas of dark and bittersweet chocolate, roasted malts, cinnamon, and vanilla. Lots of great dark and bitter chocolate flavours, a great cinnamon warmth that covers through too. Some vanilla and sourness there too. Palate is perfect.. nice and full with just the right amount of carbonation. Loved this one.

Pours a very dark brown with a tan, sticky head. Great lacing. Aroma is malt and chocolate. Taste is malt, chocolate, some alcohol, and a tiny bit of the chile heat. Not getting any vanilla on this one. Pretty good flavor.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
22oz bottle, thanks to Casey B. Bottled 3/2012. Shared with DanielCoor. Very dark brown color, near black. Thin light head. Dots and splotches of lace. Surprisingly good bitter roast malt and dark chocolate aroma. Some cinnamon, light spice. Good bigger malt profile, nice stronger bitter taste to it, light sweet. Chewier, bigger body. Lighter, more crisp carbonation. Very light stickiness in the finish. Light spicy, sweet alcohol bite to the taste, but still nice. Interesting, big mexican imperial stout. I enjoy the spiced, herbal twist. Just a bit too sweet, right now. Initially, itís very interesting and tasty, but it gets a bit cloying sweet and 1-dimensional after more sips. Slight cinnamon aftertaste remains enjoyable the whole way through, though

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
22 oz bomber. It pours a deep mahogany color with a nice thick tan head. The aroma is very rich and chocolaty with some hints of green chili pepper and maybe some cinnamon. The flavor has more rich chocolate maltiness with some sweet fruitinessÖ maybe some plum or raisin. Not getting any heat or vanilla. Some chili flavor. Very rich and thick on the palate. It has a pleasing roasted/chocolate maltiness. Fruitier as it warms. Very tasty and satisfying, but it could be a bit more aggressive to be truly awesome.
