Bomber courtesy of Doodler (thanks Scott!) poured a clear dark reddish brown with a small lasting tan head. Aromas of roastiness, bitter chocolate, vanilla and cinnamon. Palate wasa medium bodied and smooth with a lightly warming finish. Flavors of dark chocolate, cinnamon, vanilla, light chilies and a hint of roastiness with a smooth lightly warming lingering chocolate finish.

Sample at HopCat Detroit on 8/9/15. Darkest brown pour with a thick tan head. Aroma of malt, chocolate and light vanilla. Sweet chocolate, malt and vanilla flavor giving way to a very light pepper finish.

Bottle at home. It pours opaque black with a creamy beige head. Dark roasted aroma with chocolate notes along with light coffee. Light vanilla. The flavor is sweet roasted malty with chocolate notes and vanilla. Light cinnamon. Only a whiff of the chili in the finish. Not as complex as the description tells but it’s a very nice Impy Stout.

Bottle [from trade with mista] @ home. Opaque very dark brown to black color, medium sized lightly creamy brown colored head that lasts for a decent while and leaves good lacing. Aroma is malts, dark malts, dark chocolate, lightly a hint of liquor somehow. Taste malts, moderately bitter, unfortunately I only lightly dark chocolate. Doesn’t have the depth one would expect from the aroma. Nice beer though, just not top notch.

Black color with a medium head. Light spiced aroma, slightly smoky. A bit of vanilla. Dry, chocolate flavor. Very mild spice, only shows up towards finish. Full body.

Bottle from Julio’s. Poured into a tulip glass. A brownish-black brew with a frothy coffee colored head. Sweet malty aroma with a hint of spice. Flavor is quite chocolaty with a little heat in the middle, followed by lingering toffee notes. Interesting stuff.

Draft at Steins. Darkest brown in color with a small tan head. The aroma is sweet and stouty, chocolatey with vanilla and a hint of spice. The flavor is rather sweet with a slight cinnamony spice note. Not many IBUs in this mother. Very smooth and slick mouthfeel with low carbonation. Good but not a standout in the style.

Bottle. Pours a dark, opaque brown/black with garnet highlights and a mixed-grain, tan, creamy, lacy head. Nose is baking chocolate, coffee, cinnamon, vanilla, chile, booze, and pumpernickel. Rich chocolate, vegetal chile, coffee, and vanilla up front; quite a harmonious balance. The heat and smoke doesn’t really kick in until the back of the palate, past the coffee and cream; it’s a smooth transition, and it’s really very well handled. Mild for as high an ABV as it’s carrying. Finish is long and smoky with more chocolate. Well done.
