4.9 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 20/20 SPDickerman (698) - Texas, USA - MAR 12, 2012
Pours pitch black with a large, creamy brown head. Smells like vanilla and chocolate with a touch of coffee. taste is vanilla, dark chocolate enriched by the chili presence, coffee bitterness, and a slight cinnamon bite at the end. Medium-bodied (it’s only fault, being an imperial stout) with a soft, smooth texture and soft mouth-carbonation, Clown Shoes Chocolate Sombrero finishes with a touch of cinnamon spice.

The more I drink this, the more I’m impressed with it. Pours super dark with a small head. Some roasted notes in the nose that underlie some strong malt smells. Very interesting flavor palate - roasting, chocolate, with some hints of that heat from the chiles. Damn...

Clown shoes is a fantastic company. All I can say about Chocolate Sombrero is WOW!!! I bought a bomber today for $8, and it is one of the best, if not the best chocolate stouts I have tasted. You can smell the faint hints of cinnamon, chocolate and can feel the heat of the chile powder. It really is good stuff. Very smooth, dark, and easy on the palate. Perfect carbonation for this beer. Love it!
4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 Cybercat (2452) - Georgia, USA - AUG 17, 2012
Comes out of the bottle a rich, warm sable just a red tomcat whisker above black. Head is fairly thick, fine-bubbled, and toasty tan. Aroma has chocolate, coffee, nutty and earthy notes, very appealing. Flavor fills the mouth with semi-sweet chocolate, quality coffee, nutty and earthy notes plus hints of caramel and hops. Full-bodied texture has plenty of tingle and fizz. Now, how does one say "Excellent beer" in Mexican Spanish?

Poured from a bomber - Chocolate brown pour with a good head. Aroma strikes you right away - chocolate, caramel, and wood. Flavor is chocolate and vanilla, with a smoky chile afternote. Perfectly balanced.
Really great beer, but best with substantial food that can stand up to its flavor.
4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 ellolovey (264) - Georgia, USA - JAN 1, 2013
Bomber. Pours a dark brown with a thin tan head. Some lacing. Aroma of chocolate, vanilla, and a subtle hint of chile. Fresh ancho chile taste on first sip followed by loads of chocolate. Earthy and fresh. Hints of vanilla and cinnamon. Chocolate is balanced out by the spice of the chiles. Strong but not an overwhelming presence of alcohol. Just a nice warmth. Smooth and very easy to drink. Full bodied with an oily yet creamy texture. Nice sweet and spicy finish. Love this one!

Very complex beer. Great feel, pours dark and smooth. Leads with hints of chocolate and vanilla, followed by condominium and ancho chile. While complex, the flavors complement and balance. One of the best sweet stouts I have had. Great label too.

Draft at Jerry’s. Black with decent, creamy, brown head / Rich nose of semisweet chocolate, tobacco, and coffee / Full body, smooth and creamy, somewhat chewy with great balance and long, dry finish / Flavors of milk chocolate, dark roast coffee, tobacco, dates, cherries, subtle chili, and cinnamon / A terrific stout in a bold, dessert-like style.

22oz bomber poured into a snifter glass. Pours a dark brown with a two-finger tan head and good amount of lacing. Aroma of milk chocolate, malts, vanilla and alcohol with hints of black liquorice, cinnamon and spicy peppers. As it warms, the alcohol becomes a lot more pronounced in the nose. Taste is delicious and rather complex with malts and chocolate up front with cinnamon, coffee, alcohol and chile peppers coming in behind it with a hint of vanilla. The chile pepper and alcohol mix together perfectly for a nice burn that is definitely noticible going down but not overwhelming. Definitely full bodied with a thick, creamy texture and lively carbonation. Finish is a bit bitter but very long with a lingering chocolate and peppers aftertaste. This is top notch! Seriously, this is amazing and one of my new favorites!
