4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle. Pours as any big stout should ... thick, whipped, tight yet highly piled head of tan foam. The aroma is roasty and sweet up front. But the beer drinks with a bountiful, heaping serving of chocolate mousse, slightly spiced with a little bit of peppery heat. Quite well done, and a nice night cap. (#4726, 8/10/2012)

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
$8 bomber (on sale from $10) poured into a Sam Adams Perfect Pint. Haven’t been let down by Clown Shoes yet, so I’m looking forward to this.
Appearance: Pours a ruby black with excellent clarity on it. Fantastic two/three finger brown head as well. Excellent lacing. Good start so far.
Smell: Hm. Somewhat subtle, and quite "safe." A lot of roastiness with a trace of the cinnamon this is brewed with. There’s a slight bit of chocolate in the nose as well, but not as big as I was hoping. As it warms, a little alcohol and more sweetness pokes through, but it still smells about the same overall.
Taste: Hit’s the tongue with a heavy mouthfeel and a vague chocolate/vanilla sweetness. After a moment, the flavor suddenly bursts a little bit adding the roast and cinnamon near the finish. Like the smell, a bit light for some reason. Keeps making me think I have a stuffy nose or something, but I don’t. Aftertaste has that classic Imperial Stout essence of alcohol and slight warmth. I don’t many of those traditional Imperial Stout "dark fruit" sort of flavors here... a little as it warms up, but it’s not prominent. The alcohol is well hidden, as I don’t really get it in the aroma or taste until it warms up considerably. As it warms up a lot (after about 45 minutes), a pretty big smokey/petey aftertaste makes its presence known, which I welcome.
Hm. Disappointed.. I’m glad I got this beer for a couple bucks off. It looked fantastic on the pour, but that’s the best that it got. I was expecting a chocolatey Imperial Stout with a nice spicy finish (from the cinnamon and/or chilis). Instead, I got what I feel is a relatively mild, and frankly ordinary, Imperial Stout that just had me wanting more... I may be rating this beer lower than I actually should, just because of that disappointment.
TL;DR: A very enjoyable Imperial Stout that hides its alcohol well and presents a nice flavor, but the description of the beer had me expecting something completely different.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Not quite Luchador en Fuego but damn close. The Latin flavor profile really blew me away. Love the slight heat along with solid chocolate and cinnamon notes.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle: Super deep brown, thin to moderate sudsy sandy head, spotty lacing. Prune tainted dusty roasted malt nose, faint bakers chocolate and cinnamon. Not getting any vanilla and chile on the nose. Sweet prune, dark chocolate, vanilla, and cinnamon on the tongue. Body and mouthfeel are moderate. Lingering dark chocolate, muted cinnamon, and roasted malts. Does show a slight touch of chile on the end. Not spicy tho. Decent, wished it was a bit more spicy tho! Thanks Kevin!

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle: deepest possible shade of brown with some ruby trim; the cap is made of fine bubbles, light-tan in color, showing decent retention on top. Aroma has compiled notes of cocoa, roasted malt, & vanilla in the primary with cinnamon falling just behind & chilies in dead last. All in all, though, a pretty good balance that makes for a pleasing aroma. Taste is roasted malt & chocolate malt heavy with notes of vanilla extract that creep in a bit & add some sweetness. Cinnamon most present mid-palate adding for a nice layered flavor effect. Chilies only noticeable in the form of a light, back throat tingle that becomes apparent halfway through the glass. It lacks the huge mouth feel of beers like Hunahpu, Pirate Bomb, Mexican Cake, etc... but still maintains a pleasing aroma/flavor profile & at least it has good availability.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
650 ml bottle from Vons grocery store. Pours a dark brown color with a small tan head that soon fizzes away to a fine film. The aroma is mild with mocha, cocoa and dust. The taste is cocoa, mocha, milk chocolate, vanilla and a faint hint of chili spices. The palate was full but slightly chalky and the carbonation was soft. Finishes short and bitter sweet with lingering bitter dark chocolate. Decent beer, but I was really hoping for more ancho chili flavor.

4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Color is as you’d expect, dark brown with maybe a hint of ruby around the edges. Aroma is chocolate, vanilla, and a hint of chile. Light and smooth mouthfeel. Chocolate really comes through, followed by vanilla. There is a hint of heat, but not much. Bit of char in there, too.
I like this quite a bit. Nice texture, good flavor, good balance. Wouldn’t mind a bit more chile heat. Not a trace of heat from the 9% ABV!

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours a deep dark blackish color with brown head, dissipates quickly. Aroma is chocolate up front, light roastiness, and some pepper notes behind. Flavor is chocolately, kind of chalky, light lactose like sweetness, no notable pepper flavor but some heat back of the throat. Was hoping for a little more with this one but can’t beat the price.
