A nice black body with a quickly fading brown head. Aroma had a nice leather quality up front, decent chocolate malts and some spice to it. Flavor was initially sweet, almost like a dessert. Mild roasted coffee malts and some heat from the chili rounded it out. Some alcohol was present but it pretty much was well hidden. Smooth and creamy body that was easy to drink.

Pours pitch black with a fluffy, creamy tan head. Nose is definitely some coffee, some sweet, fruity chilli notes, a subtle bit of vanilla. I don’t get the cinnamon on the nose. Flavor is caramel, milk chocolate, vanilla, almost orange. There’s just the barest suggestion of heat from the chilli, but it’s definitely left a fruitiness with the spice coming in just at the tail end of the palate. Really rich and velvety smooth mouthfeel, heavy body. Pretty tasty, lovely use of the chilli.

bottle. Near black with small head. Big chocolate malt. Light heat from the pepper. A bit of vanilla and spice. Just a tad boozy, but not bad for the ABV.

Chocolate malt aroma. Black body with a small tan head and sediment suspended throughout. Chocolate flavors with roasted malts and a lingering coffee bitterness. Happy Cinco de Mayo.

Sample @ En Öl & Whiskymässa 150425. Roasted malty with chocolate and chili, sweet, medium body with an oily texture. The finish is dry and roasted with chocolate and chili notes.

Inky black and opaque with a tannish scum ring on the meniscus in place of a head. Strange aroma of chocolate fondant with Sriracha sauce and jalapenos mixed with umami notes of charbroiled beef steak and kecap manis. The first note taken once it hits the palate is of a drawing astringency on the swallow. Secondly is how vinous it is with a Cabernet Merlot quality. Chocolate is there but it is overshadowed by sharp, slightly acidic pepper notes similar to the nose. Body is on the lighter side with soft carbonation and an oily finish. Light umami resides. Not long, not memorable and lacking in balance with that astringent clap ruining everything. Just couldn’t get into it! (12fl.Oz, Bottled 06/11/14, The Liquor Shed, Jandakot)

The beer pours black with a large light brown head that fades fairly quickly, and the aroma blends cocoa nibs, chilis, roasted malts, booze, and cinnamon sugar. The initial flavor is fairly sweet with only a mild malt bitterness, but the sweetness fades to reveal a mild umami, slight residual sweetness, and mild bitterness; the aftertaste, though, is where all the ingredients reveal themselves, for the cinnamon dryness combines beautifully with subtle chili heat, bitter dark chocolate, and underlying roasted goodness. The palate fuses an oily texture, medium-full body, and a soft carbonation.

355mL bottle from Slowbeer Bottled 11/6/14 This stout looks the business - jet black with a thick creamy inch of dark tan foam persisting. Aroma is intense; rich roast malt, darkest of chocolate, coffee bean, vanilla bean, touch of smoke & biscuit. Thick, smooth, somewhat syrupy palate, low carbonation, bit of warmth towards finish (alcohol or chili?). Body is quite sweet, rich - lashings of dark chocolate, strong cappuccino, biscuity malts ,vanilla, raisin, charred meat. Finish is long, lingering, hint of chili/capsicum flavour, with warmth, but subtle overall, could be overlooked. Tasty stuff, well balanced, rather sweet though, probably couldn’t drink all too much.

Bottle, pours dark brown with small beige head. Aromas of chocolate, coffee, light berry fruit, only a hint of fruity chili spice, vanilla is there. Taste is medium bitter and light sweet, very light spice. Medium body, mouthfeel is a tad coacoa powder but otherwise soft and smooth. From the recipe I was hoping for a more powerful flavour budget, like the BrewDog Dog X brews, but not to be. Still enjoyable though.
