3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 drjay44 (2126) - Salida, Colorado, USA - MAY 17, 2013
651 ml. bottle. Pours a thick well retained ivory head, with slight lacing, over a clear, medium amber (SRM 13) body......nose is treacle, plum, heavy pine, resin, citrus, slight floral tones....taste is heavy bitter hop with hints of pine, citrus, light touches of toffee/caramel, then barnyard !!, becoming dry, leading to a lingering hop bitterness.....mouth feel medium, minimally sticky, alcohol warmth present, carbonation makes for light acid bite. The hops are utterly dominant, but not cleanly so in this bottle, as there is a bit of a muddle in the hop aromas and flavors. I would have preferred more crystal/caramel malt influence in the malt backbone. BJCP 7/3/13/4/7

2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20 Awktoberfest (92) - Davenport, Iowa, USA - APR 9, 2013
UPDATED: APR 10, 2013 Kind of a standard slash average double/strong ale... Muted hop aromas and tastes... Overly bitter unbalanced with sweetness throughout...not many positives on this one...there really are a small percentage of double ipa strong ale type beers worth trying.. This is not one of them yet.. Like the shoes though ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle via beer world. After a very windy day of moving gravel and prepping supplies and equipment for the hop yard I settled into my last beer of the day. Expanding foam head nearly overflows my largest glass. Nose is fizzy malt. Body is hop-centric and thick with pine sap. Malts barely get thru. I have been running many classic lines from kung fu movies in my head to try to fit something witty into this rating since it is #1300 for me....I came up with this...... " Your Kung-fu is no good! (finger wagging) That style is only taught to Chil-dren. HaHahHaHah....." This beer did deliver a distinctive dry finish as stated, but all the hop talk was a bit on the thick side of droll. I will finish with another witty stupid line from another bad kung fu movie where the hero has just kicked everyone’s asses in a rice bar and while walking out is approached by a sultry lady..... "Hey Mistah...wanna dance?" "No thank you, my feet are killing me!" Heavy sigh, just like I did after finishing this beer. Meh.
