3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
From notes; November 1, ’13.
A: Strong dry hop aroma (Galaxy hops), with pine needle notes and hints of caramel and citrus.
A: Pours a golden orange, not much head or lacing.
T: Lots of citrus and fresh hop bitterness comes through, with a strong caramel sweetness as well. Taste is better than the nose certainly.
P: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation. Smooth, slightly oily mouthfeel.
O: Nothing special, the sweet maltiness confuses the taste, but a decent overall east coast DIPA.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
This beer is a cracker but not if you don’t like piney IPA’s. It’s not a dry IPA its malty and has some balancing but not cloying sweetness from caramel malts, which balances the relatively high bittering. Lots of flavour big piney resiny notes combined with tropical fruits. Solid IPA.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Fresh bottle from DeCicco. Malty and good orange hop aroma, however not so good hop flavour. Past the best date? Because no date or staff warning.

3.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
12 oz bottle. Pours amber with full head. Really nice aromas of toffee, tropical fruit, raw rubber, and toasted malts. Flavors are similar but muffled - maybe old? (No date code.) Light alcohol finish. Note to self - try a known fresh bottle...

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Orange/ peach colored body had a a little bit of haze when poured, with a two fingered head on top. The aroma was very citric and piney as well. There was a ton of grapefruit on the nose. The taste was also emphasizing citric and tropical, rather than bitter, flavors, with some tangerine, grapefruit, and some guava and passion fruit. The finish was drawn out and drying. The beer was little thinner than typical for the style. I liked this one for being a bit different than typical a DIPA.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle into snifter glass, cloudy golden-copper color with off-white head. Aroma notes of strong hop dankness, tropical fruits, citrus, floral, some pine and lightly herbal. Taste adds pineapple, mango, grass, caramel malt and light earthiness. Medium body, low carbonation, dry with lingering grapefruit/pine bitter finish. It’s a galaxy heavy DIPA, leans on the tropical/earthy notes.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Copper color with a lasting medium head. Strong dank, grapefruit, and tropical fruit aroma. Shifts gears in the flavor to a perfumy, almost lavender taste. Strong bitterness with a medium to full bosy and caramel character. Quite floral as it warms.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20
Very sweet candied orange and caramel malts with a touch of brown sugar. Taste is big caramel, sweet candied orange, then a resinous pine finish.

1.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 6/20
Draught at Zinc Bistro, 6/28/15
I will preface this review by saying maybe this beer was possibly old? Hard to believe it could taste this bad, yet the restaurant is a very high volume place with only 5 taps and 3 bottles so how slowly could literally the only craft beer in house sell?
Amber liquid is deep and shows dark copper tints with an off-white head that is very well-retained.
Very little aroma here: mostly candied orange-like cascade and caramel malt interplay. Some light iced tea, bits and pieces of piney hoppiness yet no real resin. Sweetness building with warming; quite sticky and toffee/caramel-like. Very dry citrus fails to unfold in to anything aromatically pleasing. No alcohol or flaws.
Flavor is about as straight-up stewed hops as it gets. Mix in some too sweet caramel maltiness and you’ve got yourself a miserably sweet, overly bitter, astringent and hop-flavorless "Imperial IPA". More like an aged barleywine, but that’s neither here nor there. Sticky, borderline syrupy malts blunt the palate even as the carbonation attempts, yet fails, to clear the finish. Vegetal and heavily citric hop notes have absolutely no finesse and the beer fatigues the palate quickly. Hopefully will try this again some time and be proven wrong.
