Our new Pecan Pie Porter no longer uses extract, but rather brown sugar and pecans roasted by friends at The Gallows in Boston. Buddy Hadry, a rep at Bella Vista in PA, gave me the name for this beer, the second Pecan beer now that he has named. Thank you, Buddy!

Bottle pour. Very hazel colored with a dark tan head. The aroma is like smelling a pecan pie, it's wonderful. The taste is very thick, a smoky nutty flavor with a malty finish. Overall a great porter, a heavy beer.

Bomber. Pours a dark blackish-brown, espresso colored head with decent retention and lacing. Nose is nutty, chocolatey, vanilla-y, and malty with dark roast notes. Mouth is surprisingly thinner than I expected, but chock full of nutty brown goodness, cocoa, coffee, some vanilla, hint of ash toward sthe back end. Not as much like a pecan pie as I had hoped, but judging it on it’s merits as a porter, it’s very good.

UPDATED: OCT 17, 2013 22 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 8/29/2013. Pours pitch black color with a 1-2 finger dense tan head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of milk chocolate, roasted malt, cocoa, caramel, vanilla, pecan nuttiness, toast, toffee, brown sugar, brown bread, and roasted earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/toasted malt and pecan notes; with good strength. Taste of milk chocolate, cocoa, vanilla, toast, toffee, brown sugar, pecan nuttiness, brown bread, caramel, light roast, and toasted earthiness. Minimal bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of milk chocolate, cocoa, caramel, toast, brown sugar, brown bread, pecan nuttiness, light roast, and toasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice balance, robustness, and complexity of dark/roasted malt flavors with moderate nutty pecan presence; with zero cloying sweetness after the finish. Light-medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a creamy and moderately slick mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a small warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a very nice imperial porter style! All around good balance and robustness of dark/roasted malt and pecan flavors; and very smooth to sip on. A very enjoyable offering.

Pours black with brown head and nice lacing. Beautiful appearance. Aroma of dark malts, chocolate, and hazelnut. Taste is the same with pecan notes and bitter chocolate. Good body, not thin. Rating might be a little high, but this is one of my favorite styles and combinations.

Bottle, the tenth in our tasting lineup of the Beers Of Fall. Dark brown body with a tan head, lacy retreat. Aroma is sweet chocolate and caramel. Flavour is pleasantly malty, milk chocolate and roasted nuts in nice balance. Very tasty.

On draught at Yard House San Diego. Brownish-black color with a medium beige head that diminishes steadily to an outer ring. Partial rings of lacing on the glass. Roasted nuts, malt and grain in the nose. Medium-bodied with flavors of toasted malt, pecans and brown sugar. The finish is sweet with a roasted coffee and malt aftertaste. Above average overall.
