Our new Pecan Pie Porter no longer uses extract, but rather brown sugar and pecans roasted by friends at The Gallows in Boston. Buddy Hadry, a rep at Bella Vista in PA, gave me the name for this beer, the second Pecan beer now that he has named. Thank you, Buddy!

UPDATED: APR 8, 2014 Bottle: Thanks, Kevin! Dark brown pour, pitch black in the glass with a big, tan head that leaves a bit of lacing behind. Aroma is some sweet chocolate malt, light nuttiness, mild maple notes, and some brown sugar. Taste is heavy chocolate, mostly sweet and a little roasty, especially on the back end. Nutty finish, though not specifically pecan. Aftertaste is a little woodsy, too. Roasted and blunt cocoa powder with some residual sweetness, borderline astringent. Like many CS beers, mouth feel is lacking, but overall still pretty tasty.

From 9/29 notes. Shared with John for Breaking Bad finale tasting, beer #2. 22oz bottle pours dark brown/black into tulip with small almost 1 finger head. Nose is bitter coffee, chocolate, vanilla, some faint boozy notes. Mouthfeel is a bit syrupy and thin, a bit of creaminess, low carbonation. Taste is roasty dark chocolate, malty, bitter coffee, vanilla. Finish is bitter nutty dark cocao, subtle pecan pie, graham cracker. This bottle is a year old so perhaps the pecan has faded, not much to be found. Still a decent porter but seems run-of-the-mill.

Black pour with brown hue, eighth inch cocoa brown head. Very light smokey chocolate and medium brewed coffee scent. Average carbonation, foamy soft mouthfeel, finish only a bit dry. Taste is supremely blended and a bit indistinct. Not sure I specificatlly get pecans, some gingerness, smooth malt, watery porter taste however. Not worth the price of admission, flavor too subtle. Pretty good standard porter but I expected more from the description, ingredients, and price tag.

A brown body with a a nice light brown head. Beer seemed to have a bit of carbonation to it. A nice aroma of sweet cocoa malts, nice rich roasted malts. A nice subtle nutty quality. Flavor had a nice roasted malt presence upfront, cocoa malts were nice and sweet. Although there was a nutty flavor, I could not say if it was pecans or not but it certainly complemented the malty flavors. A nice full finish that was slightly creamy.
