3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
650ml brown bottle, label featuring a Mongolian warrior fighting off turkeys with pie, poured into a Tulip glass. Appearance is a dark nearly black mahogany colored with a medium large foamy tan head. Aroma of roasted malts, dark chocolate and brown sugar. Flavours of roasted malts, brown sugar, dark chocolate, rye sourdough bread and a hint of nutty notes. Taste is medium-heavy sweet and medium bitter. Palate is medium-full bodied, thick texture and average carbonation. Clown Shoes Genghis Pecan Pie Porter is decent overall, it’s too sweet and the pecans are barely detectable in the flavour.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours almost black, with a brown head.
Roasted, spicy aroma, chocolate, licorice, hops, coffee, maybe faint hints of nuts (?), tar, mint.
Off-dry, full bodied, mid bitterness, creamy CO2.
Roasted, spicy, hoppy taste, licorice, mocha, herbs, coffee, chocolate, caramel, slightly earthy.
Well balanced and smooth, long finish with notes of licorice and eucalyptus (!). I don’t really get the pecan flavours, though. (2014-08-05)

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Rich deep dark brown coloured body with a thinnish, single centimetre tall light brown head. Aroma of pecans, nuts, earth, malt, figs, raisins and a touch of smoke! Medium to Full-bodied; Strong earthy and nutty flavours at first with a very deep pungent toasty flavour and even more pit fruits noticeable, all with some light caramel and smoked peat notes as well. Aftertaste is rich and complex with the full flavours of nuts and earth really meshing well with the sweetness of the caramel and pit fruits. Overall, a nice porter with a huge nuttiness (expected) and a defined sweet flavour from the caramel and pit fruits (not expected) make this great to drink. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Whole Foods in Alexandria (Old Town), Virginia on 30-March-2014 for US$7.99 sampled at home here in Washington on 15-June-2014.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle at home. Bitter roasted chocolate, dry, light salty pecan, could do with more nutty flavour but its not bad.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
22 ounce bottle, 2013 vintage, bottled on 09/17/13. Served in a DFH snifter, the beer pours dark brown/black with about an inch and a half tan head that sticked around for a while. There’s a good amount of lacing. Aroma is nice, the brew smells like pecans/nuts, brown sugar, roasted malt, caramel, and some chocolate. Taste is pretty much just like the aroma, but there’s also some coffee, vanilla and dark fruit noticeable too. Mouthfeel/body is medium, it’s slick and creamy with moderate carbonation. I wouldn’t exactly call this a pecan pie porter because I didn’t think the nuttiness was all that strong, but it’s still a good beer that I’d buy again. $8.99 a bomber.
