Our new Pecan Pie Porter no longer uses extract, but rather brown sugar and pecans roasted by friends at The Gallows in Boston. Buddy Hadry, a rep at Bella Vista in PA, gave me the name for this beer, the second Pecan beer now that he has named. Thank you, Buddy!

Bottle: The aroma consists of chocolate, molasses, light caramel, burnt notes, coffee, and a touch of nuts. It pours a dark brown with some faint orange highlights and a two finger khaki head. There’s a soapy webbing left on the sides of the glass. The flavor starts with dark chocolate and molasses. The finish has some burnt notes, roasted coffee, some roasted nuts, and a hint of alcohol. It’s medium bodied with mild carbonation and a slightly sticky mouthfeel. Overall, I got some nuttiness, but I can’t say this makes me think of a pecan pie. It’s more reminiscent of an Imperial Stout than a Porter.

This is a very nice porter. Pours very dark, nice thick head that hangs around. Very heavy roasted notes. I don’t get much pecan out of it, but it’s delicious none the same.

Nice aroma of roasted barley and a ver pitch black color. A little dark for a porter. Taste is sweet but lacks that nice porter lightness that makes it so appealing. Clean toasty finish that is probably the best part.

Sample from 650 ml. bottle. Pitch black with a bubbly, tanned head. Sweet, roasted aroma with bread, caramel, dark malts, nuts, chocolate and coffee. Taste is sweet. Medium body with a creamy texture. Finishes dry and roasted. Lovely Porter.

22 oz. bottle. Bottled: 08/28/13. A deep mahogany pour with a thick and creamy dark khaki head. Roasted pecans, brown sugar, vanilla beans, caramel, dark chocolate, and coffee in the aroma. Goes down medium-bodied and quite smooth. Caramel and a roasted nuttiness upfront taste-wise. Brown sugar and vanilla extract follow. A mild coffee and dark chocolate bitterness at the tail-end. A salty kick finishes things off. A tasty dessert brew.

Flaske, 75 cl, hos Yespr.
