Cola colored pour, tan head. Spice, light pecan notes, roasted malt, bready aromas. Flavor is sweet, a tad watery, some pecan pie spice notes, maybe a hint of maple. Ok.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle @ home, picked up at Wilbur’s Fort Collins. Pours a dep brown/black appearance with a dark brown head. Anise, aramel, turtle dessert, chocolate, earthy, roasty malty, slightly grassy/herbal hoppy aroma. Roasty, slightly burnt, big anise, dark chocolate, slightly nutty, quite earthy flavor that finishes a bit watery. Kind of thin with a bit of bitterness on the finish but still kind of watery.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Underrated porter. The pecan adds a nice slightly sweet and certainly nutty beer. Above average mouthfeel. Dark brown coloured body. Pleasant and slightly sweet aroma. Very good drinkability. Fun unique stuff worth trying for those not hung up on being purists. One of the best bottle labels of recent years.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Thick creamy dark-beige head over virtually black beer. Roasted/burnt, dark malts very dominant, breadcrust, faintly sweet smelling. Something of dark green leaves as well, whilst warming yields liquorice. Bitterish-roasted, brown sugar underneath, but hardly any sweetness. Don’t get the pecan, but then that’s not something I consume daily. Flavours drop away quite soon, leaving not much more than carbonated liquid behind. Spritzy, medium bodied, bit slick, but finishing empty. Ho hum.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bomber from Capone’s. Pours turbid dark blackish brown with 1-finger tan head. Nose is black patent malt, nuts, cacao. Tastes rich, with a malty flavor up front (black patent), nuts, cacao, brown sugar, hops, and molasses. This one is rich and dense, but I wanted more nutty sweetness. As it is, it isn’t bad, but comes off like a nut brown ale/dry stout hybrid with extra hops and patent malt.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
On draught at Yard House San Diego. Brownish-black color with a medium beige head that diminishes steadily to an outer ring. Partial rings of lacing on the glass. Roasted nuts, malt and grain in the nose. Medium-bodied with flavors of toasted malt, pecans and brown sugar. The finish is sweet with a roasted coffee and malt aftertaste. Above average overall.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle thanks to PhatDog. Pours black with tan head. Nose of roasted pecan, vanilla and lightly toasted chocolate malt. Taste is a bit richer - lots of roasted chocolate with some coffee roast and vanilla. There’s a roasted nuttiness in the finish, which I attribute to the pecans. Medium body. Well balanced.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bomber. Poured deep brown with a very short-lived beige head. The aroma was very sweet, with chocolate and vanilla accented by salted nutty notes.. quite a bit of roast to it.. something didn’t quite work for me. The flavor found burnt chocolate and other black malts at the core, with brown sugar, sweet pecans, and coffee around.. finished burnt and roasty, with chocolate and coffee coming back. Medium-bodied with a lot of bitter roast on the palate.. OK feel and flow.. this wasn’t bad, but I wasn’t a huge fan.
