Our new Pecan Pie Porter no longer uses extract, but rather brown sugar and pecans roasted by friends at The Gallows in Boston. Buddy Hadry, a rep at Bella Vista in PA, gave me the name for this beer, the second Pecan beer now that he has named. Thank you, Buddy!

22oz bottle pours a translucent brown with some cloudy, beige head. Nose is nice, sweet, nutty, caramel, brown sugar. Flavor is sweet, nutty, brown sugar, malt, toast, brown bread. Dry, toasty finish.

Bottle (65 cl) from Systembolaget. Black with beige head. Nutty, roasted chocolate aroma, some liquorice. Medium bodied, medium carbonation. Dry, salty bitterness.

Thanks to hudsonphotog for sharing this bottle. The beer pours a dark brown to black color with a tan head. The aroma has a lot of chocolate and pecan notes, as well as some roasted malt. The flavor is similar. The heavily roasted malt notes really come through, but there is also a good bit of sweetness from the brown sugar and some nice roasted pecan flavor. All of the notes go very well together, with the sweetness and nuttyness melding especially well. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation. Very nice.

Bottle: The aroma consists of chocolate, molasses, light caramel, burnt notes, coffee, and a touch of nuts. It pours a dark brown with some faint orange highlights and a two finger khaki head. There’s a soapy webbing left on the sides of the glass. The flavor starts with dark chocolate and molasses. The finish has some burnt notes, roasted coffee, some roasted nuts, and a hint of alcohol. It’s medium bodied with mild carbonation and a slightly sticky mouthfeel. Overall, I got some nuttiness, but I can’t say this makes me think of a pecan pie. It’s more reminiscent of an Imperial Stout than a Porter.

Sampled at esbls. Dark brown and red. A tan ring. Nuts and roasted malts are smelled. A bit of a thin feel. Nuts and roasted brown sugar flavors. Pretty good.

Bottle shared by a friend at the 5th Annual Coldest Day of the Year Stout Tasting on 1/26/13. Darkest brown pour with a medium tan head. Aroma of malt, caramel, chocolate and some nuts. Pecan and malt flavor with some green pepper character and a weird tartness.

(22oz bottle thanks to bu11zeye) clear deep brown-ruby, few tan edge bubbles. Nose of lightly smoky/roasty, brown sugar, nutty. Taste of cream, nuts, brown sugar, bit astringent from the nuts maybe, cream, nice roasty linger.

FROTHINGSLOSH (5768) - GREENSBURG, Pennsylvania, USA - APR 5, 2013
Sampled on draft at the House of 1000 beers this beer poured a black color with a small foamy tan head that faded and left decent lacing. The aroma was faint toasty malts, caramel, pecan and a hint of molasses. The flavor was dryish and nutty with notes of caramel and molasses, a hint of coffee and vague roast nuts. Medium length roasty and nutty finish. Medium body. Ok.

65cl, as Genghis Pecan, new American brew Anno 2012, with roasted pecans, from De Hopduvel Gent, complex Porter, malty/roasted and slightly sweet/woody, balanced, hazy, small head, good brew, yet expensive!
