COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our new Pecan Pie Porter no longer uses extract, but rather brown sugar and pecans roasted by friends at The Gallows in Boston. Buddy Hadry, a rep at Bella Vista in PA, gave me the name for this beer, the second Pecan beer now that he has named. Thank you, Buddy!

Bottle shared by a friend at the 5th Annual Coldest Day of the Year Stout Tasting on 1/26/13. Darkest brown pour with a medium tan head. Aroma of malt, caramel, chocolate and some nuts. Pecan and malt flavor with some green pepper character and a weird tartness.

Rich deep dark brown coloured body with a thinnish, single centimetre tall light brown head. Aroma of pecans, nuts, earth, malt, figs, raisins and a touch of smoke! Medium to Full-bodied; Strong earthy and nutty flavours at first with a very deep pungent toasty flavour and even more pit fruits noticeable, all with some light caramel and smoked peat notes as well. Aftertaste is rich and complex with the full flavours of nuts and earth really meshing well with the sweetness of the caramel and pit fruits. Overall, a nice porter with a huge nuttiness (expected) and a defined sweet flavour from the caramel and pit fruits (not expected) make this great to drink. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Whole Foods in Alexandria (Old Town), Virginia on 30-March-2014 for US$7.99 sampled at home here in Washington on 15-June-2014.

Pailhead (4622) - Brownstown, Michigan, USA - FEB 15, 2014
Bottle: The aroma consists of chocolate, molasses, light caramel, burnt notes, coffee, and a touch of nuts. It pours a dark brown with some faint orange highlights and a two finger khaki head. There’s a soapy webbing left on the sides of the glass. The flavor starts with dark chocolate and molasses. The finish has some burnt notes, roasted coffee, some roasted nuts, and a hint of alcohol. It’s medium bodied with mild carbonation and a slightly sticky mouthfeel. Overall, I got some nuttiness, but I can’t say this makes me think of a pecan pie. It’s more reminiscent of an Imperial Stout than a Porter.

4/I/14 - 1Pt. 6.Fl. Oz. bottle from De Hopduvel (Gent) @ home - BB: n/a (2014-12) Thanks to Erwin for sharing the bottle!

Clear dark brown beer, aery irregular beige head, little stable, bit adhesive. aroma: lots of chocolate, mocha, dried fruits, sweet, floral, and yes, the smell of caramelised pecans, but maybe that’s only because I know? MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: dark chocolate, mocha, hoppy bitterness, dried fruits like dates and figs, some alcohol, raisins. Aftertaste: pretty hoppy, mocha and coffee, caramel, bit sweet, bitter.

22oz bottle courtesy of radarsock. Cheers, Ander! Pours a hazy porter brown with a tan head. Nose is roasted pecans, some light nuttiness, dark chocolate, and roasted malt. Flavor follows with roasted malt, some light nuttiness that almost comes off as peanuts, some earthy hops, and some dryness toward the finish. Interesting porter overall; medium to full in body and nutty.

22oz bomber split with Anndiesel. Opaque black body, respectable beige head. Sweet, nutty porter, as you would expect I suppose, some salted pecan in the aftertaste. Sweet brown chocolate, a touch of cookie dough. Easy on the palate. Good beer, maybe a little too pricey for the final product though...love to see it in sixpacks as opposed to a bomber that costs the better part of ten dollars.

The aroma is almost nothing at all certainly no pecan pie just burnt malt and a touch of coffee. The appearance is dark black wit a thin head. The taste is like the aroma. The palate is average. Overall a real disappointment with none of the qualities it should have.
