COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our new Pecan Pie Porter no longer uses extract, but rather brown sugar and pecans roasted by friends at The Gallows in Boston. Buddy Hadry, a rep at Bella Vista in PA, gave me the name for this beer, the second Pecan beer now that he has named. Thank you, Buddy!

Rich deep dark brown coloured body with a thinnish, single centimetre tall light brown head. Aroma of pecans, nuts, earth, malt, figs, raisins and a touch of smoke! Medium to Full-bodied; Strong earthy and nutty flavours at first with a very deep pungent toasty flavour and even more pit fruits noticeable, all with some light caramel and smoked peat notes as well. Aftertaste is rich and complex with the full flavours of nuts and earth really meshing well with the sweetness of the caramel and pit fruits. Overall, a nice porter with a huge nuttiness (expected) and a defined sweet flavour from the caramel and pit fruits (not expected) make this great to drink. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Whole Foods in Alexandria (Old Town), Virginia on 30-March-2014 for US$7.99 sampled at home here in Washington on 15-June-2014.

Bottle - Molasses and some sweet boozy soapy notes. Jet black with a rich brown head. Dark chocolate and molasses with a light bit of the pecan in the finish. Nice, but not nearly as good as the 512 in regards to pecan flavor.

Bottle@ZZT8: BBT1: Small ashy creamy yellowish foamy head on top of a deep dark brown to black colored beer. Aromas of roast/toasty malts and grains, malts, apple pie, light liquor, nuts, dark fruit. Flavours of roast, chalk, chocolate, bitter, malts and grainy toast. Aftertaste is bitter, chocolate, chalk and malty toast. Low carbo, watery light creamy mouthfeel, medium bodied and a creamy texture.

22oz bomber split with Anndiesel. Opaque black body, respectable beige head. Sweet, nutty porter, as you would expect I suppose, some salted pecan in the aftertaste. Sweet brown chocolate, a touch of cookie dough. Easy on the palate. Good beer, maybe a little too pricey for the final product though...love to see it in sixpacks as opposed to a bomber that costs the better part of ten dollars.

22oz bottle courtesy of radarsock. Cheers, Ander! Pours a hazy porter brown with a tan head. Nose is roasted pecans, some light nuttiness, dark chocolate, and roasted malt. Flavor follows with roasted malt, some light nuttiness that almost comes off as peanuts, some earthy hops, and some dryness toward the finish. Interesting porter overall; medium to full in body and nutty.

Pours deepest amber tinged brown into a Sam glass. Mocha head with medium retention pancakes and recedes leaving spot lacing. Mild caramel and nut aromas. Thin with dark caramel and pecans front to back. Lasting bitter espresso finish.

The aroma is almost nothing at all certainly no pecan pie just burnt malt and a touch of coffee. The appearance is dark black wit a thin head. The taste is like the aroma. The palate is average. Overall a real disappointment with none of the qualities it should have.

22oz bottle. Bottled on 10/05/2012, First batch Genghis Pecan. Pours very dark brown, black color. Dark tan head. Aroma of toasted grains, pecan meal, burnt nutty character. Tastes of roasted grains, burnt nuts, loads of roast. This is not what Pecan Pie tastes like, glad they changed the name. It tastes like a hearty Porter. Very oily texture. Finishes with molasses & roast flavors. (3649)
