22oz bottle in a teku. Pours black with a beige head. Aroma of roasted malts, some smoked malts, light rum and oak, hints of dark chocolate, and some dough. Flavor really good and has a nice amount of smokiness. Smooth texture. Another surprisingly good clown shoes barrel aged beer.

On tap at Timothy O’Tooles in Gurnee. Hooky afternoon with E. Big barrel nose. Sweet caramel. Chocolate. Rum. Yum. The bittersweetness is well done despite the rum sweetness. The barrel trumps all. 250th impy stout! 14.8

March 12, 2016 - on tap at Rare Beer Fest held in the Minnesota History Center. First beer of the night and got things off to a good start. Dark pour with a nice amount of head. The rum barrel aging was very noticeable in the aroma and taste.

Bottle Pours out pretty much black as expected with a small off white to almost light tan head. Aroma is molasses, , sweet brown sugary rum barrel, like a solid dark rum. Light roast, some mild smoke and a light touch of chocolate. Taste is lots of syrup, some molasses, brown sugar, burnt chocolate, light roast, little more apparent alcohol on this palate than in the aroma. Mouthfeel is pretty smooth. Some oaky notes creep in there and some light smoky earthy notes. Solid.

Aromas of intense rum, tropical fruit, spices, barrel, toffee, chocolate, oak, nougat and black tar.Appears black with a thin mocha foam. Taste is ridiculously smooth with dark malts, spices, chocolate and tropical rum upfront. More notes of toffee, prunes, roasted malt, roasted coffee, barrel wood, toffee, raisins and figs. Finishes smooth with a big boozey rum finish. Overall, not as intensely smoked as most beers. Smoke takes a back seat behind the rum barrel. The base beer alone is fantastic but the rum barrel gives such a fantastic twist. A rating.

Pours a three finger tan head that fades slowly to thin layer leaving some lace. Black color, no highlights. Light-medium carbonation and medium-heavy body. Rum nose and flavor is baked rum and licorice. High ABV is hidden. Lingering bitter finish. Pricey at $13.95 for a 22oz bottle from Colonial Spirits Acton, MA.

Pitch black, 2 finger coffee color head. Really nice aroma. sweet, a lot of roasted notes, some fresh coffee and fudge candies. The taste is very unique. at the core, it’s a well balanced imperial stout. decent sweetness with a lot of roasted notes. The rum honestly dos not overpower at all. present but not intense. would drink quite a bit of this one.
