Grapefruit and Pine are balanced on the nose and on the palate by a nutty, dark chocolate, roasted backbone.

Tap. Pours clear reddish black with a medium tan head and good lacing. Aroma is caramel, citrus, pine and roasted malts. Flavor is about the same plus notes of coffee, lightly sweet and lightly bitter. Body is medium.

Poured from 22oz bomber, pours a dark brown with a thick tan head and some lacing, aroma is of dark malt and a hint of chocolate with some citrus mixed in, interesting, the flavor has more roast and chocolate than I was expecting, thin mouthfeel, was hoping for more of the hops to come through, was looking forward to this but it left me disapointed.

22oz bomber, no date, courtesy of coharahawk, thanks Cole. Clear deep brown with a one finger medium beige head, fair retention. Nose is roasted malts and very nice pine and floral hops. Flavor follows suit, fairly roasty. Nice and fresh, great pine hop notes. Nice and fresh. Not really getting any sweetness, light alcohol in the lightly burnt finish, bitterness peaked at a 7ish. Medium body with light to mod carbonation. Pretty solid. Reminds me a lot like 3 Floyd Alpha Klaus, though I like the 3F better. I think of this as a hoppy porter.

Pours a dark brown with nice-sized head. Aroma of hops and roasted grain. Flavor is dominated by hop-pine bitterness, with some touches of citrus and a toasted grain undercurrent. Itís really quite good.

Bomber from Sonoma Cellars. Pours very very dark brown with a chocolate milk head leaving terrific lacing sticking to the glass for the length of the draught. Aroma has chocolate, burnt malts and pine with perhaps some faint citrus. Taste is all roasted expresso, nut, grapefruit and bakers chocolate. Very bitter from the malts with a citrusy bitterness as well. Fairly smooth and rich. Finishes very bitter. Very nice flavor in this one, just strongly bitter.

Bomber. Poured very near black with a creamy, well-retained beige head. The aroma picked up burnt dark chocolate and black malts surrounded by a whole heap of fresh grapefruit and pine hoppage.. warm peppery and earthy accents.. nice. The flavor found lots of bitter black roast joined by bitter pine and lesser citrus hops.. fresh and lively, but just too bitter for me. Medium-bodied, scratchy, and roasty on the palate.. very bitter.. this was aiight.

On tap at Alehouse Pours is a brown black with a frothy beige head. Aroma is marijuana dank hop and chocolate roast. None of the off flavors mentioned in previous ratings, but perhaps the bottles are off. Creamy mouthfeel with a bitter and slightly dry finish. Flavor is light chocolate roast, with a resinous, dank hoppiness. Simple beer, but tasty nonetheless.

September 30, 2011 with blankboy, garthicus, gregclow, jerc and mabel. Bomber c/o blankboy. Ruby-brown with a fairly large frothy beige head. Aroma is quite bitter - resin and dry herbal bitterness, with some weird raisin fruity sweetness; tart and roasty. Taste is almost harsh - earthy and intensely, aggressively grittily and generically bitter; off-putting. Average body, hugely astringent, with a long OTT harsh palate-shredding bitter finish .... didnít dig it.

Pours dark brown-black with a light tan, creamy head. Aroma of roasted malts, plums, chocolate, and anise. Tastes creamy sweet and finishes with a medium bitterness. Flavors of roasted barley, hops, chocolate malts, and molasses. Very good black IPA.

Overall there isnít anything offensive in flavor, it just reminds me of an aggressively hopped porter. Earthy dank and citrus hops are present, roasted, smoked malt with a nice chocolate note dominates the backend. Long earthy, danky bitterness carries for a while. Creamy light mouthfeel. Not the best ale around but far from the worst. Worthy of a try.
