Pours very dark brown, medium beige foam. Piney aromas accompanied by a watery roast and breadiness. Very, very slight roasted flavors, it’s mostly bitter, dry hops. Slightly under-balanced sweetness is there, but faint.

Bottle. Dark brown, amber highlights, light beige head that retains as a thin uniform pad. Dark malts share equal billing with piney hops, some pithy grapefruit here too. Sweeter than expected, but nicely balanced.

Sample at SBWF 2014. Mild malty smell with some toasted aromas. Similar taste. Lacks hops. More like a porter with a little bit of hops. Probably just aged.

Draft. Pours brown/black with not much head. Aroma is burned sugar, straw, pecans. Taste is sweet and malty with an astringent, pine balance. Never leans too far one way or the other. Good balance here.

Tap at red cow. Bumped pint. Dark plum with thick off white head. Nice clean smell with balance of hop malt and sweet. Chocolate slightly bitter flavor. Full bodied and good finish. Roasted feel and really nice texture. Solid.

355ml bottle pours almost black in color with a generous light beige head that retains well and leaves some nice lacing on the glass. Aroma is light roasted grains and chocolate with some tropical fruits and hints of grapefruit and pine. Taste is a roasted grain and grapefruit and pine hop bitterness with a tropical fruit and malty sweetness. Medium bodied with some nice carbonation which leaves a little tickle on the palate.

"Slightly older bottle... solid brew. Main players are orange peel and tootsie roll like chocolate with some roasted dark malts and a decent hop bitterness. Pretty good, probably a little better fresher."

Good for the style. Nice bitter aroma with a dark malt essence. Pours a dark shade with a good sized head. Medium to light palate with high carbonation. Bitterness with roasted malt up front. Good just not that unique anymore.
