2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
22 oz. bomber, $5.50 at Binny’s. I let this and the Clown Shoes 1.5 sit around since Aprill expecting to do a side-by-side. But let’s get serious. This one for Now, the other Later. So this kicks up a big head like some IPA’s do, but its slightly roasty in the nose like a stout. Solid black, they left it no doubt this was a "Black" IPA. Hops are still in the taste, though, or else they’ve gone far south. Hops have spread out and gone a little too herbal, on top of the high resin profile and then the large roastiness of the malt, there’s a package that does not quite appeal. Major roasty and bitter aftertaste after starting out rather interesting.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Considering my love for Clown Shoes, I was a little disappointed in the very lightweight aroma coming from the neck of the bottle and even more so after the pour. I thought it would definitely have gained some ground out in the open. Very soft aroma, heavy, soft, tan foam with a thick and creamy presence on the sides of the glass. Light citrusy hops present with a nondescript pine as the brew warms, but tipping the glass finally gets me an experience. Roasted cocoa beans and burnt chocolate in the flavor, the taste a light bitter that lasts long and dry on the back of my tongue. The body is light, slippery, and the carbonation just right for the weight. If there were more nose, I would have been delighted entirely. To drink this is a much greater experience than I would have thought it would be, considering the aroma, but I would buy it again.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
12iz bottle shared. Pours a dark brown with mocha colors head. Decent lacing on he glass. Aroma is roasted malts and grapefruit weird but good. Even hints of chocolate and coffee. The flavor is a lot more of the same. Nicely balanced roasted malts and hops with that grapefruit mostly pronounced, overall a solid beer with great flavors.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Aroma is dark and bitter and I catch an almost kind of peppery aura. The taste is dark roasted malts with a freshness from the hops breaking through. Grapefruit and chocolate. It is just a tad to sweet for me, but it is a very good one. Solid BIPA with a little too much sweetness, it should have just a little more hop bite to it.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle. Dark brown, amber highlights, light beige head that retains as a thin uniform pad. Dark malts share equal billing with piney hops, some pithy grapefruit here too. Sweeter than expected, but nicely balanced.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Sample at SBWF 2014. Mild malty smell with some toasted aromas. Similar taste. Lacks hops. More like a porter with a little bit of hops. Probably just aged.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Draft. Pours brown/black with not much head. Aroma is burned sugar, straw, pecans. Taste is sweet and malty with an astringent, pine balance. Never leans too far one way or the other. Good balance here.
