Lube? Hey, get your mind out of the gutter! Social lubrication, people coming together to unwind, is what we are talking about. This American Black Ale has a dark body, medium bitterness, balanced with West Coast hops and sweet orange peel.

Bottle @ Too many Geuze’s - only one toilet , Ulfborg 2012. Brown with a nice beige head that lasts. Very hoppy aroma of citrus, combined with very roasted malts and some caramel. Fruity taste of hops, roasted malt. Roasted ,bitter finish.

Bottled. Pours Bottle. Pours deep, dark brown with small, lacing, beige head. Aroma of roasted malt, chocolate, some pine and citrus notes. Sweet flavor that ends up more dry and with some bitterness. Medium bodied, oily text. and soft carb. A nice black IPA.

Bottle. A: Dark brown body with a well-carbonated tan espresso head. S: Straight fruity hop presence in the nose with out an expected smokey aroma. T: Light, bubbly on the way down. Dry finish as an acute smoked presence starts to shine. Hoppy sensation on the sides of the mouth giving a warming sensation. M: The smoked aspect lingers without being bitter at all. O: Very impressed with Clown Shoes beer so far. Had Hoppy Feet a couple days ago which was extremely delicious beating out Stone’s 15th anniversary black strong ale. Lubrication did the trick for a 6% black ale but definitely on the lighter side for the style. Not explosive with flavor.

On tap at tasting. Pours a deep black color with a two finger tan head and some lacing. Aroma has pine and floral notes, with chocolate and roasted undertones. Taste has a pleasant bitterness, with floral hop notes, mild chocolate, roasted malts, and light citrus. Lighter bodied with sharp, lively carbonation.

Bottled. Pours dark brown in color with a foamy tan head. Roasted coffee notes, bit of grass and some wooden notes in aroma, almost creamy somehow. Feels quite pleasant. Burnt wood, ashes, bitter chocolate and roasted coffee in taste. Very dark ale indeed with ashes and burnt wooden influences in aftertaste. I do like this brew in the beginning as it feels quite smooth but sadly towards the end it gets a bit too harsh, reminding too much of a bad ipa. After some airing it feels more decent again.

Two small tasting cups at Cotteridge Wine during the 6th July RB Black Country Bus Trip (sorry if I stole someones cup, but I needed two to rate/review it correctly). Really black body: the pour into many small tasters didn’t help the head a great deal. The aroma was deep roasted malts giving off dark chocolate and ground coffee notes. The taste followed the nose: hops traces however try to balance out the heavy malt presence and almost make it through, but just fail. Most enjoyable: didn’t dare take a third cup!

Bottle. The pour is black with a lot of over carbonation, thinking infection. The taste is heavy malt and actually tastes under carbonated weirdly. A decent black ale. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Sampled at Cotteridge Wines, during RB Black Country Crawl. Bish and Dom totally cocked up the pouring of this - their words, not mine. Decent beer I thought. Quite sweet. Didn’t know what it was supposed to be though. Great hat.

Bottle split at Cotteridge Wines, kindly donated by the establishment, lovingly poured by Dom and Bish as we neared the end of the RBBCBB - 06/07/13. Mid black with a medium sized tan head. Nose is roasted malts, light hops, cocoa dusting. Taste comprises hops, mineral bite, light pine and bitter tropicals, roasted malts. Medium bodied with bite, fine carbonation, dry finish. OK CDA but no great.
