Lube? Hey, get your mind out of the gutter! Social lubrication, people coming together to unwind, is what we are talking about. This American Black Ale has a dark body, medium bitterness, balanced with West Coast hops and sweet orange peel.

Pours dark black with a huge tan head. Overcarbonated from the loos of it. The nose is roasted coffee, nuts, flour and resin. The taste is sweet with a good amount of bitter. The mouthfeel is like pop rocks. To much carbonation. The body is light, the finish is medium., It’s ok.

Opaque black beer, good pale tan head. Softish palate. Nice fine carbonation. Medium dark malt with super mild roast. Bitterish pine with subtle red berry fruits. Nice black IPA, very drinkable without being spectacular.

Bottle. Black with a frothy light brown head that retreats a bit with little lacing. Aroma is grain, citrus, soap, a little pine, cocoa. Body is medium, carbonation is lively, texture is light watery. Flavour is light with roasted malt that lasts into the finish, where some citrus/orange pops up and stays a long while in the nose. Nice. Taste is medium bitter and dry. Dry lube? Not that hoppy, more like a 6 abv porter. Dry roast and citrus.

from Erzbierschof - dark beer under a huge persistent dark beige foam; very hoppy aroma of pine needles, licorice and black cherries; medium-bodied, some astringency and a robust biting bitterness; long hoppy finish of licorice and black cherries; pretty dry

UPDATED: JAN 29, 2013 650ml bottle thanks to Joes. Opaque pitch black color, full sized light brown head that lasts for quite a long time. Smell and taste malts, hops, slightly some fruits and moderately bitter. Fizzy carbonation, ok body. Overall a bit disappointing and too highly carbonated.

Bottle @ home thx to Joes. Dark brown colour with some ruby redness shining through. Smells slightly roasty, some chocolate. Tastes oatmeal, chocolate and roasty. Not a very deep taste. Pretty thib to medium body with a bit too much carbo.

Bomber. Most of the Perfect Pint is foam and that dissipates slowly. The beer is pretty much black and opaque. Citrus hops are what I smell first. Some roasted notes in the background along with some grass. This style is not one of my favorites but once in a while one of them strike my fancy. This one is between there. Soft hops and less malts than expected. The hops are citrus and have moderate bitterness. A bit of spice in them. As easy drinking a Black IPA as I have found.

Aroma is sort of a hard, burnt starchy malt and tree sap laced black coffee. Pitch black with nice tan head, not unlike a good porter. Blunt bitter start and long malty finish, I would call it an English pale only with lots of toasted malt. Slick body, substantial without feeling heavy. Pats play Houston tonight..plenty of time to get ’lubed up’
