Lube? Hey, get your mind out of the gutter! Social lubrication, people coming together to unwind, is what we are talking about. This American Black Ale has a dark body, medium bitterness, balanced with West Coast hops and sweet orange peel.

UPDATED: MAR 6, 2012 Chilled after room temp shelved for some number of months.Slightly froze, heavy hiss when opening and a massive head.Black with a tan head great lacing. Aroma was all a light somewhat metallicy at first with a thin airy citrus scent chocolate notes come as it warms, fresh light citrus with chocolate seems to stand out most with very light sweet grainy roast notes. Taste has a nice smoothness with good hop presence with a lightness from the citrus but somewhat medium bodied but overall seems light with a nice roast towards the finish with a chocolate background citrus hops up front.Pretty nice black session ale really, very drinkable with a nice roasty chocolate and bittering. I could see this being in a can,and i would love to take it outdoors and have a few of these.Overall taste is really nice.

Pours dark brown with a decent tan head that fades with some time. Nose is immediate citrus, oranges, tropical fruits, pines, dark chocolate, and sharp dark roasted malts. Flavor is sharp roasted malts again, chocolate, coffee, sweet caramel malts, citrus complexities and fruits. Medium body and moderate carbonation with a dry satisfying finish. Flavor and bitterness lingers slightly. Very nice.

Bottle@ SF. Very dark with mocha head. Smells kind of like something you should huff. Tastes toasty and herbaceous. Very stark and dry. Interesting. I’m not sure off I like this or not.

Pours black in color. Aroma is of malts, chocolate, coffee, and molasses. Flavor is the same. Nice body. Leaves a roasted malt finish. This is a black ale, not a black ipa.

Bottle. Pours an opaque dark black with a huge billowing tan head. Leaves a sleeve of lacing down the glass. Aroma is full of roast malt and some citrusy hoppy notes. Beers is highly carbonated, foamy feeling with some bland roastiness and little hop presence. A nice aroma followed by a disappointing flavor and body.

Pours black with a soapy caramel cola colored head. Roasted malt aroma followed my some citrusy pine. Decent flavor balance of roasted malt, coffee, dark cocoa and piney, minty hops. Overall, for my first sampling of Clown Shoes, its a winner!

Boliv (1150) - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - OCT 19, 2011
Bottled August 2011. Pours very, very dark red, a deep burgundy/brown when held to light, with a 2.5-finger frothy brown head that recedes to a small head and leaves some sticky lacing. The flavor is lightly bitter earth and bark, unsweetened cocoa, and some light mocha sweetness. Low to medium carbonation, a bit creamy, and easy drinking. Tasty, with nice bitterness; what happened to the provocative label?? [854]

Very dark - good thick tan head. Lots of chocolate malt in the aroma. Taste is tons of dark malt - chocolate and coffee with what must be a ton of hops to almost balance it. There’s so much malt for those hops to overcome, but it can’t quite do it, and that makes it a really nice beer.

Bottle. The pour is black with a lot of over carbonation, thinking infection. The taste is heavy malt and actually tastes under carbonated weirdly. A decent black ale. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
