Lube? Hey, get your mind out of the gutter! Social lubrication, people coming together to unwind, is what we are talking about. This American Black Ale has a dark body, medium bitterness, balanced with West Coast hops and sweet orange peel.

UPDATED: JAN 29, 2013 650ml bottle thanks to Joes. Opaque pitch black color, full sized light brown head that lasts for quite a long time. Smell and taste malts, hops, slightly some fruits and moderately bitter. Fizzy carbonation, ok body. Overall a bit disappointing and too highly carbonated.

Bottle shared with Yanick. Pours black with brown head. Nose/taste of mint chocolate chip, burnt black malt, pine wood and pine cones. Harshly dry pine cones cut at the back of the palate. Burnt dry chocolate malt follows. Medium body. The only offering from them I didnít like too much so far.

Fresh from Premiere Gourmet. Opaque black bodied Average mouthfeel, aggressive carbonated. Average mouthfeel. The roast without significant hops . Still very good drinkability.

Bomber. Pours dark black with 2-finger well-retained tan head. Nose is chocolate malt and cacao, resiny piney hops. Tastes malty, with cacao and big resiny hops. Medium palate heft and complexity. Smooth and hoppy finish.

Bottle. Pours with a deep brown hued body with a lasting off-white head. Aromas are of orange, citrus, pine, faded, tea, caramel, bready, mild roast. Iced tea and marmalade (i.e. faded hops with a lot of crystal malt). Flavors are thin, bland, and watery with mild diacetyl. Some light citrus, bready, mild bitterness. Lighter carbonation. Not a big fan of this one.

650 ml bottle. Bottled 8/11. From Kihoskh, Copenhagen, Denmark.
Black colour with ridiculously big tan frothy head. Piney hops and roasted malt in aroma. Excellent Black IPA aroma. Like walking through the coniferous forest with malt and chocolate with you. Flavour is very smooth with mild hops and roasted malt. Low carbonation. Very drinkable and tasty but quite simple Black IPA.

12oz bottle pours a nice looking mahogany with semi loose mocha head. The aroma offers up dark roasted coffee , dark roasted malts and chocolate as well as spicy and earthy hops in the background. The taste jumps at you all at once with a rolling and twisting mix of dark roasted coffee, spicy hops, resiny bitter pine hops, some chocolate and dark roasted to burnt malts. As the taste goes to midway and then toward the finish the highly roasted to brunt malts take over the flavor leaving timid levels of spicy and resiny hops and coffee behind mumbling to themselves in the corner. Nice stuff.

On tap @ Radio Maria. Very dark brown with a light brown head. Sweet mocha and dark caramel aroma. Less intensely flavoured then the aroma suggests, and I found the hard roasted flavours were quickly swept away by bitter, pithy hops. A tad thin on top of it all. Chalky dry finish.

Bottle. Pours a deep black with a thin to medium sized beiged tan head. Rather hoppy roast, citrus and lemony notes over a roasty malt background. Medium bodied, big roast features prominently, chocolate and toast. Long roast and chocolate on the finish, cocoa, earthy with some more roast. Nice, easy drinking, well done.

12 oz. bottle from my Secret Santa- thanks, Santa! Pours a deep, dark coffee brown, near black, with a finger of tan head that stays for a long time. Aroma of cocoa, burnt leaves, earth, toasted sugar, and some citrus peel. Flavor of super bitter dark chocolate, roasted malts, earth, and significant hop bitterness. Medium-bodied, with a bitter, roasty mouthfeel and medium soft carbonation. Iíd probably like it a bit more if it had some other characteristics that came through besides an overall bitterness. But itís not bad.
