COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Lube? Hey, get your mind out of the gutter! Social lubrication, people coming together to unwind, is what we are talking about. This American Black Ale has a dark body, medium bitterness, balanced with West Coast hops and sweet orange peel.

Bottle. Black in color with a medium tan head. The nose is grassy, a bit of pepper some roasted malts. The taste is of roasted flavors, some coffee. Hoppy dry finish. The palate is light/medium, the finish a bit watery. The carbonation active. Overall, an inoffensive black IPA. Nicely made, though boring.

The aroma is very hoppy and toasted with grassy and pine hops. There is both citrus and coffee here. The appearance is dark brown with a thin head. The taste is like the aroma. The palate is smooth. Overall an interesting beer but to astringent.

Bottle from pikapp327. Dark pour with a massive tan head that is just massive. Aroma is dry chocolate, coffee, and a little dirty. Taste is bitter chocolate, light coffee, and fairly roasted. I don’t feel any west coast hops at all. Not bad, though.

Bottle shared with Yanick. Pours black with brown head. Nose/taste of mint chocolate chip, burnt black malt, pine wood and pine cones. Harshly dry pine cones cut at the back of the palate. Burnt dry chocolate malt follows. Medium body. The only offering from them I didn’t like too much so far.

Bottle. Pours with a deep brown hued body with a lasting off-white head. Aromas are of orange, citrus, pine, faded, tea, caramel, bready, mild roast. Iced tea and marmalade (i.e. faded hops with a lot of crystal malt). Flavors are thin, bland, and watery with mild diacetyl. Some light citrus, bready, mild bitterness. Lighter carbonation. Not a big fan of this one.

Fr0m the Binnys in 0rland Park, IL: I’m missing s0mething here that (yes, peeked at the 0ther ratings) 0thers g0t, mainly the h0ps. Nice l00k, an 0paque, deep br0wn b0dy, with a f0amy light br0wn head. What I smelled was dark r0asted malt, an ashiness, and s0me lic0rice. The taste g0es as the n0se fl0ws, still n0thing 0n the h0ps. It did finish with an ashy bitterness, presumably a h0p bypr0ducct. N0t a bad drink, but I’m missing the Black Ipa part 0f it.

Not one of the better Clown Shoes beers - missing much interest. The aroma was inviting, but very thin and leaves me not happy

Pours black with a little head. Aroma was good but I don’t remember anything specific. Taste was good but after taste was horrible.

Bomber courtesy of scotchzi (dude, thanks once again): bread, cheese, floral, hop aroma. cocoa, malt taste. herby, malty, overly carbonation. 5.8

650 ml bottle.
Pours a black colour with a firm foamy head. Aroma of overly ripe mango, ash and grassy hops. Flavour of roasted malts, ash, overly ripe mango, grassy hops and some saltiness. Carbonation is very high and mouthfeel is foamy. Medium bodied and a roasty, quite bitter finish. Unbalanced and I really don’t like the hop profile. Carbonation is so high this actually reminds me of highly carbonated water.
