Lube? Hey, get your mind out of the gutter! Social lubrication, people coming together to unwind, is what we are talking about. This American Black Ale has a dark body, medium bitterness, balanced with West Coast hops and sweet orange peel.

Bottle. Pours an opaque dark black with a huge billowing tan head. Leaves a sleeve of lacing down the glass. Aroma is full of roast malt and some citrusy hoppy notes. Beers is highly carbonated, foamy feeling with some bland roastiness and little hop presence. A nice aroma followed by a disappointing flavor and body.

bottle to glass; nice roasted aroma + something else in there; nice aroma dark pour - too much bitter hops too early for me not a fan

Hopfig-malziger, etwas laffer Beginn. Geringe Bitterkeit, mild, etwas brotig dunkel. OK. 11/9/8/8/11/8

Pours deep black with thick tan head. Only a light roasty aroma. Flavor is off big time. I get that immediate metalic taste. Then a little roast but very little hops. bummer

Dark pour, fizzy head like soda. Smell was citrus grapefruit and cocoa. Not a good combination. Taste was similar, highly carbonated, with a lactic sour finish. I wasn’t digging it at all. It was nice and creamy, but flavor-wise, not good.

12oz bottle from Total Wine, Durham. Dark cola pour with a moderate prickly head. Nose is sharp to the point of excess, a needle buried equally in citrus and ash. Hmmm. Medium bodied, fairly light mouthfeel, but the taste profile is - even for a sometimes dubious style - clashy as fuck. Didn’t care for this at all.

Thanks for sharing Sebastian! Pours a dark brown with orange highlights. Smell is dark roasted malt, mild licorice. Taste is roasted malt, spice, piney hops with a dry finish. Active carbonation...a bit too much and light body. Not too exciting but also not too bad.

@Eddan: flaskan är nog lite trött men det fins tydliga drag mot en Black IPA. Svag humle och små lakritstoner. Eftersmaken ger mig en nötig känsla. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

12 ounce bottle from Beer Run in Charlottesville, VA. Pours a very dark brown color with a medium creamy brown head. Decent head retention. Aroma of roasted malts, chocolate and something faint that seems dirty and off. The taste is bitter hops, some roastiness in the finish and faint nuttiness. Medium bodied. A bit muddled and well off balance.

12 oz bottle purchased at Bark’s Beer Cave. Bottled in August 2011. The aroma is heavy on roasted malts with some sweet character. I also detect some hops present, which seem to be more of an orange-ish floral variety. The hops and malts do not compliment each other in the aroma. Mostly opaque black body with a medium light tan head that is pretty strong and persistent. Starts mostly roasted with a little sweet cocoa powder flavor. These malts tend to persist throughout the beer. This is a little burnt with some astringent, bitter grapefruity hoppiness towards the end. Seems more of a porter than an IPA. Not a fan of this style, nor this particular interpretation of it. Way too charred and roasted.
