COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our third anniversary beer us sizes Chocolate Sombrero, using extra ancho chile and adding chipolte pepper. We aged the brew 100% in Wild Turkey and Heaven Hill bourbon barrels. May it leap onto your palate majestically, like a luchador who flies into the ring from atop the highest rope.

UPDATED: MAR 27, 2014 Bottle: Thanks, Scott! Deep brown, almost black with ruby hints. Creamy tan foam fades fast. Aroma is sweet chocolate, nearly tart dark fruits, mild vanilla, some bourbon head, wood, and faint back-end spices. Hard to discern peppers, cinnamon is more notable. Taste is very smooth. Surprisingly not hot, smooth bourbon, sweet cocoa nibs and vanilla drizzle, some warm cinnamon spice, and just a mild touch of peppers at the very end. A touch of oak in the finish as well. Mouth feel could be better, as is the case with most Clown Shoes stouts, it seems, but this is thicker than most. Very good beer overall.

0.65l bottle from what has to be my secret santa. Just canít pinpoint whom it was... Anyhow, thanks! Looks really nice in the glass this with a thick and really oily black pour. It actually can bear some resemblance of pouring oil in a glass, and itís leaving a nice big kinda brown looking head thatís leaving lacings. Smells absolutely amazing this! You immediately get the chili fruitiness here. Itís sweet, thereís vanilla and sweet dark chocolate blessed with something that reminds me more of whisky than bourbon. A lovely lovely nose indeed. Yup, itís as thick, chewy and viscous in the mouth as it was on the pour. A lovely mouthfeel with a nice prickling small bubbled carbonation level. The spicy chili is slowly warming the throat while chocolate, roasted makes, whisky and a slight alco warmth just tickles on my taste buds. Itís not to hot on the spices, but itís really fruity and slightly smoky-warming. I get lots of marzipan towards the end and some wood is also present. This is a flavor bomb. Huge thanks for the bottle! 26.06.2014

October 15, 2014 - bottle from AV3. Dark brown pour with nice head that lasted for a bit. Aroma was bourbon, chocolate, spice and peppers. Taste was a nice balance of the heat, chocolate, sweetness and spice, though the bourbon is the most dominate flavor.

Quite good! Rich with strong chocolate, bourbon, and vanilla flavors. Not a lot of chili flavors, but some cinnamon.

Bottle. Extremely complex aroma of dark chocolate with dried fruit, almonds, and boozy vanilla. Opaque black with hazy, ruby highlights under a bubbly, light brown, thin sheet. Rich dark chocolate flavour with bourbon and vanilla like a liquor-filled chocolate. Some red fruit notes and a good level of dark chocolate bitterness. Full body, moderate to medium carbonation. Smooth and warm.

Poured from a 750ml bomber, opaque black with thin tan head. Aroma is dark chocolate with booze on the nose. Some light coffee aromas with lots of raisin and dried fruit. Flavor has tons of dark chocolate, some raisiny dried fruit, some cherry flavor. Tastes like a dark chocolate liqueur candy. Full body medium carb. Delicious!

Sampled at esbls. Black with tan foam. Big everything. Booze, too. Huge malts. Dark fruit. Whiskey. A classic but a good one.

Bomber from Kroger in Grandview. Pitch black pour with a tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, chocolate, bourbon, vanilla. Tastes are cocoa, bourbon, just a bit of the peppers, vanilla, cinnamon, syrupy sweet. Slick oily medium to full palate. Well balance, fun sipper.

wishing for more barrel influence in this one. I was expecting this to be the runaway as my favorite clown shoes beer, as I love the combo of ingredients and the barrels, but everything (while very nice) was just so...restrained. Smaller of body than expected, but smooth. Alchol comes on the nose and the aftertaste a little. Bitter cocoa, very light spices, roast, and light bourbon and vanilla. Very good, coulda been better."

From notes, consumed on 7/25/2013. 22 oz bottle into a Belgian snifter. Black with almost a finger of tan head. Decent lacing. Aromas of toasted coconut, bourbon, dark fruit, chocolate. Tastes of dark chocolate, vanilla, bourbon, light peppers. Medium-full body with a dry finish.

22 ounce bottle, bottled on 02/25/14. Served in a DFH snifter, the beer pours dark brown/black with about a half inch tan head that fizzled away quickly. There isnít much lacing. Aroma is nice, the brew smells like bourbon, vanilla, chili peppers, chocolate, and roasted malt. Taste is pretty much just like the aroma, but thereís also a bit of woodiness and smoke noticeable. All the flavors mesh well together, I donít think any of them are overpowering. The peppery heat in this is very mild, itís more of a vegetal pepper than a spicy pepper flavor. Mouthfeel/body is medium, itís coating and creamy with moderate carbonation. Overall I liked this brew, but then I liked their Chocolate Sombrero too. I think that the barrel aging improved the brew a little bit, definitely worth a try if youíve never had it before. $14.99 a bottle.
