4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
22 ounce bottle, bottled on 03/14/14. Served in a DFH snifter, the beer pours dark brown/black with an inch tan head that stayed around a while. Thereís also a good amount of lacing. Aroma is nice, the brew smells like roasted/burnt malt, coffee, bittersweet chocolate, anise, molasses and piney hops. I think the taste is pretty much just like the aroma, but with the addition of some dark fruit (plums, figs) and milk chocolate. Mouthfeel/body is medium/full, itís a bit creamy and has a moderate amount of carbonation. Iíve been a fan of the other Clown Shoes stouts Iíve tried in the past, and this one is enjoyable too. I think itís a good overall brew, Iíd pick this one up again. $9.99 a bomber.

Draft pour into a wine glass. Pours a dark brown to black with a khaki colored head of foam. The aroma is ashy and smoky and chocolaty. The taste is fairly bitter and smoky. Some resinous bitter qualities are there as well. Big body and moderate carbonation.

Bomber. Pours a midnight black with a thick frothy dark tan head. Loads of foamy lacing. Stout aroma of coffee and roasted notes. Palate is overwhelmed with roasted malts, burnt cocoa, and dark coffee grinds. Alcohol creeps on you.

(bottle - 22 oz) Dark black pour with a tan head. Roasted malt and coffee aroma. Really thick and inviting. Flavor is big and roasty as well. Tons of roasted malt, dark chocolate and coffee with a bitter coffee and chocolate aftertaste. Alcohol is really warming.

On draft. Black color with beige head. Coffee aroma. Coffee taste and really smooth for its strength. I can barely taste the alcohol. Slightly bitter aftertaste.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle. Pours pitch black with a small creamy head that fades to a ring and leaves a bunch of oily lacing. Aroma has burnt coffee, toasted wood, chocolate, ash, and some earthy and piney hops. Tastes like hoppy burnt coffee and I love it. This could qualify as an imperial black ipa if they wanted it to. Pine, earth, burnt coffee, ash, smoke, dark chocolate, and a hint of raisins. Moderate bitterness in the finish with lingering pine and burnt wood. Full bodied with a thick, creamy mouthfeel. Love this beer. I need to get more.
