4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20 Alphadelic (1629) - Portland, Oregon, USA - NOV 30, 2010
This beer is a revelation. I have never tasted one like it.
Impeccably dressed, deep black with a thick, creamy, clinging off-white head. The aroma is sweet and floral with brown sugar and roasted nuttiness with an overwhelming perfumed quality. In the mouth it is lightly bitter with plenty of deep chocolate and roasted nut and that aromatic floweriness again. Flavours are just dreamy. The only downside is a light, clovey numbness at the back of the tongue.

Bottle. Brown/black pour with tan head. Smells sweet with fruit, chocolate and nutty notes. Tastes sweet at the start with a dark chocolate bitter aftertaste. Nice beer.

Hey my first time adding a beer to the site. I spotted this one in my local packy and wanted to give it a try. Seems they shall be doing an official release party soon. Poured from a bomber into a pint glass. A very dark brown beer that was nearly black. The head was a two finger thickness with a slight tan that was creamy. The aroma was a nutty sweetness, almost like a dark sweet liquor like Kahlua. But also notes from pecan shells and a chocolaty and vanilla base. The taste is sweet but there is some bitter in there to. You can kind of get a fake syrup in the texture and taste but just sort of reminds me of the sugary bit of pecan pie so might be purposeful. Yes this would be a great dessert beer but also might pair well with some roasted pork on the bone.

Pours black into a Sam glass. Mocha head with good retention leaves spot lacing as it recedes to skim surface. Pecan and corn syrup aromas. Sweet full caramel and pecan upfront turning to chocolate in the lasting finish.

Bomber. Poured very deep reddish-brown with a solid cap of tan head.. looked aiight. The aroma was hella-sweet, with vanilla, pecans, candied caramel, and toffee.. buttery.. not what I usually want in my beer, but it was intriguing. The flavor was just as sweet as the nose indicated.. probably more vanilla than anything else, with plenty of sweetened pecans and caramel too.. some earthy bitterness and vanilla beans around.. tasty, but hard to drink a lot of. Medium-bodied and remarkably sweet as mentioned on the palate.. bitterness cut through a little bit (mostly vanilla-inspired).. interesting stuff that I think rates a little low.

22 oz bottle. Pours dark brown, with ruby edges and a one finger tan head. Aroma is sweet malt, nuts and vanilla bean. Interesting taste of roasted malt, mild chocolate and, yes pecans. The pecan flavor is light. This is not some gimmicky liquid pecan pie. Moderate bodied & smooth drinking.

On tap at battleship. Pours a very dark brown color with a thick brown head. Aroma is of sweet malts, chocolate, berries, and a little roastiness. Flavor has some burnt malt, nuts, chocolate, and coffee. Leaves a burnt chocolate & malt finish. Smells much different than how it tastes.

Medium Body like a poter but the flavor is a little more complex than many in the style. Bits of chocolate and roasted malt. Some nuttiness and a sweetness that works itself in rather nicely. Little bit of red fruit faint and way in the back of the sip. The pecans with their way in nicely and this is not some artificially flavored syrupy drink like some of the other pie ish beers you can find.
