4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours inky black with a frothy tan head that hangs in there for a while. Copious lacing. Aroma is bourbon, dark-roasted (almost burnt) malt, and coffee, with hints of dark chocolate, leather, and tobacco. Flavor is dark sweetness with a backbone of hoppy bitterness that is prominent especially in the aftertaste. Full bodied, although a bit thinner than I expected; moderate carbonation. Luscious, tasty brew!

Bottled on 10/11/12, poured into a snifter. Pours jet black, minimal head with very little lacing. Thin pour, nose is bourbon and vanilla...a little bit of smoke. Bourbon is very muted. Medium heavy carbonation, pretty hot alcohol burn! This is a nice beer.

this Impy had a black-brown pour and made a one finger tan bubbled head that receded to a thin cover and thick ring,
the glass had nice spots and fingers of lacing, and the bottom of the bottle had a ring of dark sediment at the edge of the bottle,
it had aromas of roasted malt, chocolate, faint coffee and caramel, some bourbon alcohol and sweetness, molasses sweetness, and faint earth notes,
the flavors were roasted malt and roasted malt bitterness, coffee, some chocolate, molasses and caramel, a little bourbon flavor,
the finish had malt bitterness (somewhat astringent) and alcohol spike,
the mouth feel was pretty thick and it was a little creamy, some alcohol warmed on the palate,
it was a nice Imperial Stout with more bitterness (and astringency) than I prefer in a Impy drink, less bitterness would help me to enjoy it.

3.9 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. The pour is a dark brown/copper color. The aroma is sweet sweet bourbon with a hint of smokiness. The taste has a lot of smoke in it that I was expecting, and less bourbon. An interesting mix of flavors. High marks on the palate because of it.

Bourbon and chocolate nose. Bourbon, vanilla palate, with a balanced touch of smoke and ash coming through on the finish. Balanced for 12.5%. Long, elegant finish, which lingers with dark fruit and bourbon.
--- tasted while on a long journey to understand the world around me...

Here is just one more reason to be a fan of Clown Shoes. From a bomber into a Belgian-pimp glass splashed like watered-down chocolate syrup into some cola. The smells was a little earthy and a little smokey with some nice oak and cherries all about. It tasted smokey as well, but with a nice half-and half like fuggin’ balance of sweetness with a smooth raisin/toffee finish. Good stuff right hrrrrrr.
