Descended from a notorious clan of Scottish lore, head brewer Dan Lipke channeled the Tartan tapestry encoded in his DNA to create a formidable Wee Heavy. The beer has been aged 100% in fresh bourbon barrels. Ask yourself, “Who needs to ride the lion?”

Poured a hazy chestnut brown with almost no head, and it was gone in an instant..............aroma of sweet malt and booze.......taste is quite boozy, slight metallic hop taste, bourbon near the end and the end comes quickly. For a big brew a bit of complexity is lacking......though as a heavy it is certainly that.

Tap at Happy Gnome. Opaque light orange brown, looks like coffee with creamer and has fine carbonation. Huge bourbon/alcohol aroma with vanilla, caramel, sugar, and figs. Flavor starts with a sticky caramel roll sweetness that finishes dry. Body has a heavy stickiness that coats the mouth. If it didn’t smell so good, the appearance might be offputting.

Bomber. Pours a milky dark caramel color with a thin foamy ivory head. Aroma hits hard with bourbon, roasted malts, and a subtle sweet vanilla note. Very boozy. Alcohol and bourbon dominate. Roasted malts and vanilla follow as the alcohol warmth subsides. A deep lingering bourbon burn at the finish. It’s a biggin to drink alone.

A little boozier than expected, but still quite good. I love scotch ales and bourbon barrel beers, and this actually comes in a touch under what I’d hoped (especially at the price) but it was enjoyed. Sweet, not cloying, and while quite tasty, not a ton of depth.

Pours murky brown, with very little head and no lacing. Aroma of caramel and fruit cake. Taste is the same with toffee, bourbon, vanilla. Very sweet. Alcohol burn on the backend.

(tap) hazy amber colour with a small brown head; aroma is bit sour, some honey; very nicely balanced flavour with a light long sour finish; slightly thick palate

/Pours brown with a dense tan head. Initially taste the sweetness and caramel notes. A bit of vanilla too. Ends with a woody bourbon taste. Unfortunately, that lingers long, as it then covers a lot of the initial tastes after the next drink. For some reason I feel it is a cheaper bourbon barrel used....as whiskey and cheap bourbon often makes me have a headache right away - even after a few sips. I might have to check the site to see if they have this in non-bourbon barrel form, as I think the initial wee heavy taste was quite good. Until then....will let it warm a bit before drinking more.

A very aggressive but tasty wee heavy. Some beers become more mild and tamed by oak-aging, but not this one. The flavor smacks you around with booze, smoked malt, caramel malt, and undertones of vanilla. Wee heavy is right!

Pour is thick and heady. Aroma is very sweet. A good beer and tons of kick at 11% abv. I liked this beer a lot but should be a after dink dessert not a sit and drink or you will be drunk and on a sugar high.

Bottle pour hazy brown. Nose caramel malt, some earth, but then dirty gym sock, some barrel. Taste smooth malt, toffee, caramel, some vanilla from the barrel. Smooth mouth. Light bitter on the finish with a hint of the funk from the nose. Tatste much better than it smells. Interesting progression of flavors worth a couple tenths.
