3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: JAN 17, 2016 May 2014 release opened 1/15/2016, so this has aged on the store shelf for 18 months or so. Consumed about half the bottle. Stoppered the rest, consumed it on 1/16. Dark, orangish, muddy, hazy. The look is not particularly attractive. Little to low carbonation. 1 inch cream-white head after a vigorous pour that fades at a moderate rate leaving some lacing, ending in a ring with bubbles. Aroma dominated by whiskey with sweet malt. Hints of dark fruits, earthy, but it mostly smells like whiskey. Substantial to thick mouth feel. Smooth initial taste, malty, but transitioning quickly to whiskey. It is hard to pick up the more subtle flavors of the beer due to the dominance of the whiskey flavor. Stong whiskey aftertaste with alcohol warming in the back of the mouth and the breath. The overall impression is a sipping whiskey, not a beer. Tasty, just like a smooth, but thick, bourbon. But if you are looking for malts and hops, this is not the beer you are looking for. I have no idea how to rate this beer, since I have no baseline, so mostly I’m rating on my like/don’t like scale. But, it seems to me they overdid the barrel aging flavors.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Originally rated on 7/16/14. The body is a murky brown, with a half finger tanish head that recedes slowly leaving some spots of lace. Aromas of rich, sweet caramel malts, oak, bourbon and booze. Flavors are about the same as the aroma, not overly sweet, the oak and bourbon are present but restrained enough so they dont overwhelm. Booze is a bit on the hot side, but not off putting. Mouthfeel is medium and sticky. Overall a nice brew from Clown Shoes, worth a try.

3.6 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
poured from bomber into teku. Terrible smell. Somewhat sour, baking soda, funky. I thought this thing was totally skunked at first. Luckily, the flavor was ok. Thinner than expected with a little too much carbonation. Boozy with a pronounced alcohol finish. The wee heavy backbone is decent, but sits in the background. It needed to stand up more against the barrel. Smooth enough for 11%, but not nearly as refined or complex as it needed to be for $13

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Pours clear mahogany with a frothy and fairly persistent buff head. Strong aroma has bold caramel, fresh-cut wood, toasty malt, bourbon and earthy tones that drag the drinker closer. Flavor roars with bourbon-infused oak, roast malt, caramel, earthy and subtle hoppy tones. Firm texture has some good fizz, and leaves a not-so-subtle bourbon bite. Ride this lion - but please try not to get roaring ripped.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bomber from Puerto Rico Food & Liquor, cellar aged 6 months at cellar temp. This was an offering after the Scotch Ale tasting for St Patricks Day, and shared with ck1 & Jan. Not included in the tasting as barrel aged offerings were to be excluded ... or this may have won. Reddish brown pour with some streaky lace. Aroma has whiskey, brown sugar and some butterscotch with light peat. Taste is of butterscotch, light whiskey, some toffee and faint peat. Fairly sweet. Smoothly long butterscotch-with-whiskey sweet finish. 14.4

Bottle... Pours mostly clear and dirty-orange with a brief, off-white head. The aroma is an odd, but pleasant collection of caramel, medium-dry brown sherry, raw beef and a hint of oak. Medium-bodied and sticky with adequate carbonation. The flavor is a tasty marriage of sweet caramel and boozy bourbon with a warming finish. Quite pleasant. Bottle courtesy of darkguardian!
