3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle at home. It’s a deep amber beer with a medium off white head. Loads of biscuit toasty malty aroma notes with caramel and nutty side notes. Mainly caramel malty flavor with sweet nutty notes leading to a sweet malty finish. Only light hoppy notes. It lacks complexity but is well made overall.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottled 10/22/14. Pours a slightly cloudy deep and dark golden amber color. Aroma is of yeast, malts, cloves, fig, dark fruits, and some subtle booziness. Nice and heavy palate with just the right amount of carbonation. Flavor is of dark fruit, yeast, malts, clove and a hint of moss scotch. Leaves a sweeter dark fruit finish. Wow. Another great beer from Clown Shoes.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Poured into a snifter.
3.0 A: Hazy medium brown color. One finger of frothy beige head. Retention is poor and just a wisp or two of lacing is left.
4.0 S: Lots of brown sugar in this. Toasty malts, dark fruits, plum, raisin. Sugary sweetness. Light nuttiness to finish things off. Very nice.
3.5 T: Like the nose. Toasted malts, brown sugar, raisin, plum are the main flavors. Not as sweet as the nose, but still sweet overall. Bit of peat as well.
3.75 M: Heavier body. Good moderate carbonation. Reasonably creamy and super smooth.
3.75 D: Good beer. Big strong focused flavors.

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Oh malty goodness. Pours a murky dark amber with nonexistent head. Aroma is rich malt, bread, dark fruits, a slight sweetness, and some booze. Flavor is almost a direct translation of the smell, though not as boozy as I’d expected. Finish is sweet, and slightly cloying. Which I like. Good stuff... must go get more if it was a one-timer!

Keg at The Post Office Vaults, Birmingham. Dark chestnut with white head. This gets started on rather a thick, syrupy sweet note, rather worrying but then comes through a warming, fruity, plummy alcohol note and then a whole gamut of Christmas pudding flavours, almonds, spicy fruitcake, cinnamon. Lasts and lasts on the palate, rather a sipper for me. More Barley Wine than Scotch Ale for me, but pretty decent for my 12k.
