Pillowhead (3) - Peoria, Arizona, USA - APR 26, 2012 does not count
Decent IPA. Hoppy yet sweet at first taste (not quite balanced). Maltier than most IPAs I've tasted. Overall a good brew, but not one I would actively seek out again. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Amber-colored, quite active, bubbles rising to a thin but quite firm head of tightly-packed foam. The aroma is surprisingly malty for a beer labeled IPA in America. Indeed, this drinks without the expected characteristics of most beers sold as an IPA on this continent ... rich, malty, almost bready. At the very finish of each quaff, I get a quick snap of tanginess, more apple orchard than hop farm. In a blind test, I think I might label this a fest, with a hoppy kick. Hmmm ... is my palate off here? (#4575, 4/27/2012)

Pours hazy orange. Mild hop aroma and a medium bodied well balanced IPA. Pretty good American hop flavor (citrus) and decent malt flavors (nutty, biscuity) ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Defreni (2724) - Husum, DENMARK - APR 22, 2012
Flaske: Orange øl med et stort skumhoved. Duften er amerikansk humle, men med en del sødme fra malten. Let støvet som går igen i smagen. Meget bitter ovenpå sødmen der gør øllen lidt svær at drikke. Ikke fremragende.

In short: A harsh bitterness bomb over a sweet grainy malt backbone. Fun beer for the bitterness lovers only
How: Bottle 22oz. Consumed fresh a few weeks after purchase
The look: Clear copper body topped by a medium beige head
In long: Nose is hoppy but not all that aromatic, you can ‘smell the bitterness’ (makes not sense I know) but there is not a big bouquet to go along with it. Taste has a malt base reminiscent of grainy hard cookies or toasted granola cookies. Also toasted brown sugar and some caramel. Then a whole lot of harsh hops that are mainly extra-bitter grapefruits, resinous and to a lesser extent piney. Long bitter finish of medium-high intensity. I could honestly still taste the bitterness 5 minutes after I had finished drinking the beer. Despite the sweetness of the malt backbone the bitterness dominates the beer. This is basically a harsh bitterness bomb, maybe it would be a little less harsh with a month or two of age. Lacks in aromatic. I’m a self-confessed major hophead so this was an enjoyable beer, but if I was to rate objectively I would have to take a few points away. Supa Hero, street slang for Super-Hero, those fictional characters with superpowers that come in all shapes and sizes, but only one color, white.

glennmastrange (2368) - hobe sound, Florida, USA - APR 17, 2012
Bottle. Moderate roasted and caramel for the malt, pine and grapefruit juice for the hops, light soap for the yeast with wood and pepper in the background. Head is small to average size, frothy, off-white with fair lacing and is mostly diminishing. Color is hazy, medium amber/orange. Flavor starts faintly sweet and lightly acidic, then finishes lightly acidic and moderately to heavily bitter. Palate is on the lighter side of medium, watery with a lively carbonation. You’ll find everything that common to an IPA in this, but that grapefruity hop profile turns this into one great drinking beer.

Cornfield (5570) - Oak Forest, Illinois, USA - APR 15, 2012
From the bomber this poured a slightly hazed amber body with a short-lived off-white head that still provided a good deal of lacework. The aroma was grapefruit zest, tangerines, and a touch of pine. The hop bitterness was up front in the flavor, citrusy, followed by a light surge of grainy malt, and finishing on a dry, zesty bitter note. Pretty decent IPA, but at 8% ABV, it’s pushing the line a bit.

Bottle shared with Yanick. Pours reddish copper with an off white head. Nose/taste of caramel malt, pinapple, tropical fruit and resinous pine. Slightly dry finish. Medium body.

BrooHa (120) - New York, USA - APR 13, 2012
Pours a dark, hazy amber (chill haze?). Minimal head (soft pour). Smells tangeriney, resinous, oranges. Nice malt presence but hop-forward. More of the orange and tangerine-type flavors. Nice sharp bite and residual finishing bitterness (good). Can tell this is a higher ABV IPA but not overpowering. Dangerously drinkable. Good job, ya bastahds! Wicked good!
