On tap at Ol Beer in Walnut Creek, CA. Pours black with a think brown head. Tastes of chocolate and roasted malts. I think I even tasted a little bit of that hickory. I'm a sucker for imp stouts. Gotta love em.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
2011 bottle of Vampire Slayer. Pours dark with a nicely defined mocha foam head. The aroma is of lactose sugar, soft smokiness, cocoa, liquorice, and leather. The flavor has a sweet milk sugar taste. In addition to the sugary flavor I noticed a pleasant bitterness, earthy tobacco, some chocolate, a mild roasted taste, hints of possible coffee, and a very soft acidic flavor in the finish. Overall this was rather good and it aged better than expected. Very drinkable brew.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle, Bottle Dog, Kings X, London. Great name and label. Murky dark brown looks with a small tan head. Beak had notes of chocolate, dark malts, earthy hop and liqourice. Fullish mouthfeel. Flavour was dark roasted malt, hops, dark fruits, smoke, choc and booze. Finished dry with more bitterness and roast. Good impy but not quite out the very top drawer.

Bottle: I enjoyed this at the annual Stout tasting in Boise hosted by some Beer Advocate guys (gasp) where they allow some rating whores in from ratebeer.
I’ve always been impressed with Clown Shoes. This is basically alcoholic black coffee with sugar. I liked it.

3.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Interesting Stout. The nose is dominated by chocolates and cocoa. The taste is altogether different with tobacco, leather, drain cleaner and roasted chestnuts. Kind of weird, its good that its not overly sweet, but still I get off flavors.

Draft at The Brass Tap - U Square. Pours a deep brown color with a moderate tan head that settles into a film and laces the glass with a solid sheet. Notes of chocolate, toasted and brown sugar, roasted malts, tobacco, earth, light soy, and toast. Medium-bodied, with moderate carbonation and a rich, roasty, and toasty mouthfeel. Good imperial stout.

Dark rich sweet coffee aromas. Big roasted richness, some dark sweetness. Coats and leaves an amazing stickyness behind.

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
12 oz bomber pours a thick inky black with a huge light brown head that fades quickly leaving some nice lacing on the glass. Heavy cocoa aroma upfront and a hint of coffee. Taste of cocoa, coffee and dark fruit. Fig? This brew is thick and chewy, not much carbonation after the pour. Very smooth finish. ABV is well hidden, making it deceptively drinkable.
This is one of the really ones!

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
"Vampire Slayer" bomber purchased at Beverage Warehouse a full two years ago while on a business trip to Los Angeles ($8.95). Pours mostly black with brown around the edges and only a half finger of creamy tan-brown foam. AROMA of heavy roasted malt, black coffee, candied pecans, some campfire BBQ, and dark chocolate. FLAVOR of dry-ish dark roasted malts, cocoa, creamy coffee, moderate smoke, and a little bit of dark fruit to finish it off. Finishes with a nice level of sweetness along with the dark malt and mild smoke profiles. The 10% is utterly concealed and this is really surprisingly quaffable. (576, 963)
