22oz Bottle. The pour was a murky jet black with an average (1-2 finger) cocoa brown creamy head that slowly receded, down to a puddled film and large collar with extremely excellent sheeting of lacing which engulfed the entire glass. The aroma was bold and robust of burnt dark bread malts, a moderate dose of resin hops and a strong leathery yeast with notes of bakers’ chocolate, dark roasted coffee, licorice, vanilla, ash and a powerful alcohol presence. The taste was bold, roasty, bitter-sweet and very malty with a touch of bitter chocolate early on, becoming powerfully bitter and hoppy with a huge dose of dark roast coffee, a bit of smoke and an intense alcohol finish. The flavor stuck around what seemed like an eternity, with a bold alcohol coffee bitterness left lingering on for quite some time. Mouthfeel was almost full in body with a dry, oily and rather creamy texture and an almost medium carbonation. Overall this was a very strong tasting brew with a multitude of flavors all blending together, thus creating one exceptional beer. Although I thought the big alcohol presence took away slightly from the fantastic flavor this brew has to offer...

Lightly smoky, chocolatey aroma. Pours black with small tan head. The head is viscous, causing it to hang around. Dry with light smoke and chocolate. Very creamy mouthfeel. Love the tiny carbonation. This is a nice beer.

Bottle. 12/13/12. Bigg hoppy and sweet desert beer. Solid impy but not my favorite.

Bov (8268) - Bienne, SWITZERLAND - DEC 12, 2012
from Erzbierschof - pitch black beer under a little beige foam; deep aroma of dark chocolate, vanilla and walnuts; full-bodied and with a velvety palate, some sweetness and a low bitterness; some earthy touch before a long chocolatey and vanilla finish - the alcohol is very well-hidden; nice dessert beer

Not sure if I was expecting more or not, but this beer seemed to be off the mark for me. On tap at The Devils Advocate. (From past notes). Although I knew it was a higher abv, there was some sharpness from what I perceived as alcohol bite that I was surprised to find. The was a cloying sweetness as well that distracted from the flavor. I liked what was being layered here flavor wise, perhaps the beer just needed to age some? Always appreciate a different approach to styles, especially in the RIS or similar group. I will have to try again, perhaps laying a bottle down for a while.

Great beer, reminds me more of a milk stout than an imperial stout. I could drink this alot, in fact i’ll try to. It’s a very very drinkable stout, you don’t taste the 10% at all and the milky silky mouthfeel makes it that much more enjoyable. Finishes with a dark chocolate after taste, wow thank you CS!

suurjuust (618) - ESTONIA - NOV 30, 2012
Dark brown, almost black, small tan head. Nose is licorice, milk chocolate, coffee in the background and lots of sweet roasted bready malt. Taste has a lot of sweet roasted malt, burned sugar, dark fruit, espresso, dried fruit, roasty finish with a pleasantly mild alcohol burn. Smooth carbonation, oily, syrupy mouthfeel. Big flavours, big beer.
