COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In a world full of uncertainty, hardship, and people trying to hold us back, do we need the undead and trademark attorneys too? Clown Shoes says, "No, die, monsters, die!" Forces of darkness brought about a change in the name of this beer, which was released to celebrate our second anniversary, but it still sports signature dark malts, holy water, and malt smoked locally with hickory and ash.

We’ve had Clown Shoes around here for awhile, but I never have seen this one on the shelves until very recently. Snagged up a bottle as soon as I saw it as this is one I’ve wanted to try for awhile. Poured into a snifter. I let this warm up for about 15 minutes out of the fridge before I poured. Pours hesitantly out of the bottle - a slow glug. A pleasant dark tan head sits on top, but fleets away quickly. Leaves tiny bits of lace stuck to the glass. Sweet aromas of milk chocolate, vanilla cookies, booze, roasted nuts. A nice profile for sure. This beer is a little disappointing in the mouth. Drinks much thinner than I expected from a big bold beer. Light carbonation, slick finish. Needs more "chew" to this to stand up to the flavors and ABV. This is one of the sweeter Impy Stouts I’ve had in awhile. Milk chocolate is for sure the main player, sweet from start to finish. Light char flavor melds in well, and finishes with a whisper of boozy aftertaste. Good beer for sure that I’d revisit as I loved the flavor. But they need to tweak the mouthfeel a bit to give this one just a little more girth.

Bottle shared at the Cotteridge convention, 24/01/2015. Many thanks to BeersIveKnown. Viscous black caramel coloured pour with a fleeting tan head. Aroma is smoked meat, ham, dark malts, molasis. Flavour is composed of hiney ham, berry, rounded caramle, smooth roast. Palate is sweet and viscous. Tasty stuff.

Light smokiness with some roast. Bitter dark chocolate with caramel and some booze, though less than you’d expect. Creamy consistency, very smooth. Good stuff. Tap at Churchkey.

2011 bottle of Vampire Slayer. Pours dark with a nicely defined mocha foam head. The aroma is of lactose sugar, soft smokiness, cocoa, liquorice, and leather. The flavor has a sweet milk sugar taste. In addition to the sugary flavor I noticed a pleasant bitterness, earthy tobacco, some chocolate, a mild roasted taste, hints of possible coffee, and a very soft alcohol flavor in the finish. Overall this was rather good and it aged better than expected. Very drinkable brew.

Bottle, Bottle Dog, Kings X, London. Great name and label. Murky dark brown looks with a small tan head. Beak had notes of chocolate, dark malts, earthy hop and liqourice. Fullish mouthfeel. Flavour was dark roasted malt, hops, dark fruits, smoke, choc and booze. Finished dry with more bitterness and roast. Good impy but not quite out the very top drawer.

Bottle: I enjoyed this at the annual Stout tasting in Boise hosted by some Beer Advocate guys (gasp) where they allow some rating whores in from ratebeer. I’ve always been impressed with Clown Shoes. This is basically alcoholic black coffee with sugar. I liked it.

Poured an opaque black colour with a fluffy toffee head that left thin lacing. Aroma is coffee, roasted malts, chocolate and a hint of alcohol. Flavor is herbal cocoa, bitter coffee, brown sugar, and roasted malts. Medium bodied and light carbonation. Smooth, chewy mouthfeel with a sweet overall flavor. Alcohol is well hidden.

Interesting Stout. The nose is dominated by chocolates and cocoa. The taste is altogether different with tobacco, leather, drain cleaner and roasted chestnuts. Kind of weird, its good that its not overly sweet, but still I get off flavors.
