In a world full of uncertainty, hardship, and people trying to hold us back, do we need the undead and trademark attorneys too? Clown Shoes says, "No, die, monsters, die!" Forces of darkness brought about a change in the name of this beer, which was released to celebrate our second anniversary, but it still sports signature dark malts, holy water, and malt smoked locally with hickory and ash.

On tap @ Wheatsheaf $10 pint. Complex syrup and bitter flavours, with a mild smoke aroma. minimal lacing and tan colored head. The perfect imperial stout to finish the night on.

Bottle, Boise imperial stout tasting. Near black pour with a thin finger of creamy brown head. Huge aroma of roast and coffee, light cocoa and smoke. Same basic impact in the taste; a rich roasted malt with faint smoke, espresso, and hints of vanilla. Very big and flavorful. Finished a little bittersweet. Solid beer.

Poured into a snifter. 3.75 A: Black color. Two fingers of frothy light brown head. Retention is decent given the ABV and a half finger of lacing is left. 3.25 S: This brewery can’t seem to make a beer without throwing in way too many hops regardless of style. Roasted barley, smoky char, molasses, and bitter chocolate. Herbal and earthy hops with hints of citrus. 3.0 T: Tastes like it smells. Moderate hop bitterness. Roasted barley with extra burnt notes. Smoke, bitter chocolate, molasses, and hops. Earthy hop flavor with herbal and hints of citrus. 3.75 M: Lighter heavy body. Good moderate carbonation. Moderately creamy and smooth. Booze is well hidden. 3.0 D: It’s okay, but I prefer less hoppy stouts. ★ 719 characters DavoleBomb, May 11, 2014

Black, huge overflowing tan head. Aroma of roasted malts, some anise. Taste is semi sweet and bitter. Flavors of roasted cereal grains, black licorice, a touch of bitter chocolate. Thick mouthfeel. Roasty. Finished bitter and a touch sticky. Solid.

Bomber. Pours black. Tan head, no lacing. Aroma? Hah! No aroma, I’m terribly sick! Flavor? Chocolate, roasted malt, coffee for sure. How am I doing? I’m just guessing at these, because that’s what every imperial stout tastes like. At least a stout is a good beer to drink when you’re sick; very soothing to the throat. Soothing indeed. Seriously, I’m sure this beer is great. I have nothing bad to say about it.

Bottle, 650ml. An almost dark beer with a medium size brown head. Aroma is of chocolate, nuts, alcohol and coffee. Taste is bitter with a strong finish. Moderately dense with a strong aftertaste that reminds me of black coffee. Almost reminds me of coffee. Nice Imperial Stout but certainly not the strongest.

Bottle, 65cl. Almost opaque black with a frothy brown head. Sweet roasted and dried fruit aromas with hints of alcohol and molasses. Robust with moderate carbonation. Sweet and heavily bitter with tremendous malt character and a smooth, fruity finish.

Deep brown with a slight head. Big fruity malt aroma, some smoke and tobacco. Nice lightly smoked flavour which I want expecting, chocolate and roast malt. Hell yes.

Bottle @ home, via trade via rotbox. This is the Vampire Slayer / 2nd Anniversary release from 2012 and was matured in my parent’s closet for three years. Pours a deep black appearance with a thin brown head. Quite a bit of anise / black licorice in the nose along with dark chocolate, light smoke, and roast. A touch thin. Even more black licorice and smoke in the mouth. A hint of spiciness. Moderate low bitterness and moderate sweetness. A little oxidized. Not hard to drink but also not all that flavorful. Ok.

655 ml. bottle. Purchased @ Willems & Zoon. The text & label is hilarious. Pours very dark to black, little mocha head. Nose is umami, licorice with some cheap chocolate sweetness, cacao, cheap instant coffee. Taste is umami cheap licorice, instant coffee, basic mocha mixed with touch soy sauce, herbal, cheap chocolate syrup, canned coffee, faint herbal brambleberry… Solid body, touch grainy, faintly powdery not as thick as you would expect. It isn’t a bad beer but I expect a lot more from an RIS to be honest. The running theme with Clown Shoes for me appears to be decent but not amazing or on par with the completion / other big names.
