Hand pulled cask at the Moon and Sixpence (JDW) Hatch End. Amber/gold with a loose bubbled white head. Watery cereal malts and minimal hops. Quite the blandest golden ale that I’ve tried for some considerable time. Not in poor condition, just symptomatic of economy brewing. Crap!

BlackHaddock (1709) - Shropshire, ENGLAND - APR 12, 2012
Brown 500ml bottle, best before July 2011, drank and reviewed 7 Mar 2011. The label claimed 4.1%ABV. Poured into an ’Old Speckled Hen’ badged pint vase: Light amber, semi-golden body, tight white head on top. Clear and showing a few bubbles rising towards the head. Mini citrus hop smell, not too much of anything, but definated hints of citrusy hops, especially as the beer warmed (rear label suggests below 12 degrees C as the correct serving temp). Easy to drink and refreshing, the taste has a citrusy bitter feel to it, not overly bitter, but with a bite non-the-less. A pleasant beer rather than a mind blowing experience that’ll change my life.

Cask at the Tilly Shilling (JDW), Farnborough. A very attractive bright golden amber with a loose white head; muted hoppy aroma; soft and chalky in the mouth, with a thin, sweet and biscuity flavour; and a light biscuit finish. Very standard fare.

Cask (Tivoli (JDW), Cambridge)
Sweet simple mashy porridge. Yeah, sweet and underattenuated. Smooth, but dull. Late finish si quite nutty. But this this is dull dull dull, and only hinting at adequacy. Drinkable, but meh.

500ml bottle at 4.1%. Pours dark orange with no head. Aroma is slightly sour, a bit of orange and malt. Taste is quite watery, bit of bread. Poor.
