COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask; Regular.
A stronger than expected mild. Very dark, with a full flavour and a slightly bitter aftertaste, this places mild in the forefront of cask-conditioned beers again. It has a fullness, which as its name suggests lets you know it's there. A very frequent medal winner at the Great British Beer Festival.

Certainly a dark mild, but not very strong however what this beer doesn’t have in strength it does have in flavour and aroma. The intensely dark mild has a distinct toffee and sweet aroma which is the forefront to a powerful mild which has a chocolate and caramel flavour with a slick texture. This beer really does quench your thirst and is very deserving of it’s gold medal.

Cask-conditioned at the Commercial Rooms, Bristol, November 2012. Dark, ruddy brown with a decent, off-white head. Sweet, chocolate and roasted malt aroma. Flavour was similar, with some dark fruits also and a gentle finish. Pleasant all round.

Knights Templar, Chancery Lane 1 Nov 12. JDW Festivaløl nr. 2. Svart. OK litt farget skum som varer. Forsiktig røstet aroma. Smaken litt tynn. Antydning til frukt. Vassent helhetsinntrykk.

Poured a medium brown with a small creamy off white head. Aroma is roast malt and liquorice. Medium body. a little watery, flavour is a bit too liquorice for my tastes, also some roast malt and coffee. Lingering dry aftertaste with more liquorice.

Festival ale, shared with Finn, at The Knights Templar. Deep dark coloured body with a ruby tint. Naked black surface. Mid-sweet malty nose, hints of berries as well. Dark malts with a dark fruity touch in flavour added by hint of liquorice. Gentle malt-bitter finish. Soft in the mouth. Nice (London, 01.11.2012).

[Cask at the Monks Retreat (JDW), Reading] Brown-black with a thick beige head and a slight fizz. Roasted malt, coffee and chocolate with a hint of cough mixture. Comforting smoke and roasted malts in the aftertaste. A decent mild, although not quite up to the Banks Howling Wolf that was also at this Wetherspoons fest. Together though the two milds have reaffirmed my faith in mild as my favourite style.

Cask handpull, The Baron (JDW), Hinckley, 07/11/12. Finally caught up with a Spoonsfest. Mahogany capped with a grey-beige lid. Immediate buttered charcoal, burnt pencil, Black Russian, hints of raisin and cinder toffee. Aroma of margarine, leaf matter, oaked spirits. A bit washy.
