Commercial Description:
Cask, Special; This rarely seen beer is a well-balanced, chestnut-coloured brew, with a dry, light roast palate, hints of malt and a delicate, toffee nose – named after the old River Mersey Wharf, close to the brewery. Hops used: Styrian Goldings

Cask in the alfread herring. Alround rating: Caramel and nutty malt, fairly thin with grassy hop comign through to try and balance, but its on the sweetside. Acht!

A Mes rate. Cask at Baker Street Sporks.
Hazy copper with a faint oily off white film. Not the best looking beer I have seen. Slight sourness, decent fruity malt, some earth plus a faint mineral note. Rather limp and lifeless. Sour finish with a late bitter twist. Boring.

Cask at the Monks Retreat (JDW), Reading. Gold with a dense cream head; sweet malt aroma; sharp acidic fruit flavour with a touch of pear drops; lightly bitter finish. Rather unsettling.

Handpulled cask at JDW Hatch End. Copper with an off white head. Boring brown crystal malt based bitter. Quite drinkable and in good nick but very forgettable.

The Baron. Deep bronze with a slim, nitrogenous collar. Instant butter and strawberry aroma, mingled with half-marathon trainer. Suck of Strawberry and Cream Campinos, rank with butter. Not a sliver of the promised toffee. Diacetyl bomb bigger than Caledonian Double Dark, on this semi-drinkable evidence. Urgh.

Cask-conditioned at the Commercial Rooms, Bristol 3/11/09. Copper coloured with next to no head. Sweet, malty bitter with red fruit and caramel, a slightly rustic edge to the flavour and moderately bitter finish. Not so good.

Cask conditioned at a Wetherspoons. Copper with white head. Malty type bitter, no sign of the goldings apparently. Some caramel, sweetish, slightly fungal and a touch sour. Not my favourite type of bitter.

[Cask at the Back of Beyond, Reading] Amber-chestnut with a moderate white head. Oak and malt aroma. A smooth, rich, easy-drinking bitter with lots of toffee and just enough woodiness to balance it out. Good stuff.
