COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask; Seasonal - Spring.
A Golden Spring Ale. New Zealand hops give an intense steely bitterness, which is followed by a strong chocolate/ coffee flavour from old Amber malt. Uncompromising and full of character.

Golden orange colour, with a light hop nose, and light gentel fruit with a little bitter linger.

Tasted this in Tennent’s Bar, Glasgow in May 2005. Cask, handpump dispense. Very pale clear straw in colour with slight green tints around the edges and a thin white head. Floral hops in the short aroma. Thin resiny mouthfeel and poor lacing. Pale malt gives a tart citric flavour of grapefruit and lime cordial. Strong hop resins give a dry bitter aftertaste. Finish is tart and pithy. A good golden session ale.

Cask conditioned at Far from the Madding Crowd, Oxford. Burnt gold to amber with slight white head. Sweet malty beer, grainy, slightly fruity, not very inspiring.

Cask, The Criterion, Leicester. Amber with a dense white foam. Aromas are biscuit and grain with woody, earthy hops and some woody notes. Hints of honey and lemon. Flavours are low malts with dry biscuit and hints of caramel. Traces of oranges with a peppery, clean, dry finish. Not as good as the commercial description portrays.

UPDATED: NOV 23, 2009 Cask (handpump) at the Britons Protection, Manchester. More amber than gold. Tight off-white head. Touch of citrus. Some subtle fruity notes and moderate bitterness. Chocolate & coffee I did not get. Easy drinking and pleasant but a bit bland. RE-RATE: Cask (handpump) at the Skinners Arms, Kings Cross, April 2009. Looks nice enough. Certainly gold. Touches of citrus. Otherwise pretty anonymous. 6/4/6/3/10 = 2.9

Cask Handpump at the George & Dragon, Great Budworth 17/05/2003 Golden coloured and a little sweet on the palate. Some bitterness malt and hops in the finish.

Too bitter, not bad in quality, good foam, a little dark, but not my style.

UPDATED: SEP 13, 2007 Cask at The Albert (Westminster - London).
Limpid red color, clearly and fixed. Much light and much vanishing head. Light but agreeable scent; fruit flavored notes of grape, apple and malt. Dry, smooth and fresh taste. Determined bitter even if it’s lightly watery on the end. Light and little alcohol tone. Enough short end.

Cask conditioned @ Humble Plum, Soton. Copper rather than gold. Sweet malt and toffee with some toasty flavours. Not too interesting and unfortunately without an ’intense steely bitterness’.
