3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 vadie (210) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - MAY 19, 2013
2.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 gramity (1056) - Edmonton, Alberta, CANADA - MAY 12, 2013
Bottle. Jet black with thin brown head - looks like the crema on espresso. Aroma is heavy smoke, roasted malts, and a bit medicinal. Taste is fairly one dimensional with heavy smoke characters and not too much else. A bit of cocoa on the nose and in the taste.
3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 dfearnley (324) - Alberta, CANADA - MAY 11, 2013
Bottle to flute
Smoke, dark chocolate, fish oil aromas. Dark brown with a dark tan ring like head. Taste is smoky and malty with a tiny bit of bitterness.
3.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 Ferris (494) - Edmonton, Alberta, CANADA - MAY 11, 2013
Bottle - Smoke, iodine, and roasted malts with some dark fruit. Jet black and thin brown head. Smoky and some chocolate, but seems a bit thin and one dimensional. Not that great.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 wintyguy (68) - British Columbia, CANADA - MAR 20, 2013
Pours a nice black toasted cappuccino head with a smokey chocolate, roasted character. Little off sour something there, gorgeous pour, man that is good. Served around 8 deg C from a 650ml bottle. Easy carbonation, easy bitterness, neither the driver here. Good body, smoked malt, somewhat peaty yet not cloying at all. Its good! ABV is 8.5%%, doesn’t taste like it. That’s a good beer.
3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 GothGargoyle (571) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - JAN 24, 2013
Dark brown with a small brown head. Aroma is smoke, bacon, soy sauce, leather, bbq sauce, smoked salmon. Medium body, slightly oily mouthfeel, somewhat sweet on the palate smokey finish. Taste is smoke, dates, chicory, brown sugar, soy sauce. Interesting but not compelling.
3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 WheatKing (703) - Oak Bay, British Columbia, CANADA - JAN 20, 2013
Aroma is definitely smoky, but flavour is mostly sweet... we’re talking molasses sweet here, like a very thin Baltic Porter. Finish is sweet, a bit of wood, but doesn’t last long, my belches were clean. Too much of a thin/sweet combo to make this a "great" beer for me, but, hey, better than most beers out there.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 fiulijn (12179) - Malmö, DENMARK - JAN 2, 2013
Bottle from Legacy Liquor Store, Vancouver Dark color, almost black, with small head, frothy fizzy and quick. The aroma is vaguely similar to tempura dip (tentsuyu), some dark caramel and mild smoke. The mouthfeel is leaner than expected for its size; there is a quite strong flavor of dark caramel, nice but moderate smoke, peat, and an impression of tentsuyu; in the final there is some apparent sweetness. The bitterness level is quite low. The mouthfeel, the fermentation and the head retention should be tuned, but the rest overall is very good.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 pictoman (81) - British Columbia, CANADA - DEC 25, 2012
Poured from a 650mL bottle. Dark brown (almost black) with no head. Sweet smokey, leather, molasses smell. Sweet smoked jerky taste. Thick creamy texture, but with no carbonation. Would I buy it again? Absolutely, but not often (every now and then kind of beer).
3.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 stantheman (362) - British Columbia, CANADA - NOV 3, 2012
Sample at beer club. Didn’t get any head on my sample, so no notes on that. Nose is smoky of course, but other notes as well. Better on the nose than on the tongue.
