I smell resin and sharper pine with some caramel. light amber with moderate white head. odd in the mouth—thin & aggresssive, flavor gets citrus sour, some ESB-ish malt. piney finish

Bottle:   Amberish in color, mild carbonation, moderate white frothy head, fairly decent lacing.   Moderate pithy/hoppy nose, a little organic like graininess as well.   Moderate malt body with a dull pithy hop flavor profile.   Well balanced, decent malt base with a not so big hoppy aspect.   However, its very dull.   Nothing about this is sharp or bright.   Could use some more sweet citrus or floral aspects.   For me it seems like a robust American Pale Ale.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate.   Pithy finish, citrus zest, and thankfully not much of that organic malt like presense.   Just wished this one was a little brighter, sweeter, and more juicy/citrusy.   I would have settled for a bit more floral aspects as well.   Not a bad beer, just seems like your average IPA.   Solid, but dull in its flavor profile.

Bottle served in a tulip. Says 5.8% abv and 77 IBUs. Hazy orange with a short off-white head. Good retention and lacing. Mostly caramel and dough on the nose but there are floral and grassy elements as it warms. English styling perhaps. You wouldn’t guess the flavor profile would be so bitter based on the aroma. Medium bitter and doughy flavor. Medium body, oily texture, and a very long, ultra bitter finish.

Tap @ Coalition. Hazy orange pour with a brief, minimal white head leaving coarse lace. Pine, grapefruit and malt nose. Medium body and moderate, very fine carbonation yielding a somewhat creamy mouth feel. Grapefruit, tea, biscuit, cereal and a light sucrose sweetness. Finish is long and bitter, with more citrus rind and cereal. Bettered by several other of Coalition’s offerings.

draft. slightly hazed orange. cheese must and mold hop nose and flavor. excessively bitter, chewy, syrupy and goopy texture, full-bodied. resinous, raw, green, oily, moldy, ugh. very, very difficult to enjoy. brash, horrible flavor, unpalatable.

A golden IPA with a thin white head. In aroma, a lightly floral hops with faint malt. In mouth, intense hops, herbal, grapefruit pulp, lightly bilous, medium bodied. On tap at the brewpub, July 30 2011.

Not the best IPA in Portland, but very solid (and easily my favorite of the Coalition brews). Hoppy, but leaning more toward the pine side than citrus.

Clear amber color, small off-white head. Citrus-piney aroma. Light to medium bodied. Some caramel in the background then NW hops: mango, citrus, pine needles. Short finish. This one could improve with a bit more malts.

Tap at Sixteen Tons. Hazy orange pour with fluffy white head. Flavor and aroma mainly pine and citrus hops with a mild caramel backing. Pretty typical PNW IPA.

Hophazard (193) - San Francisco, California, USA - FEB 17, 2011
Sappy pine resin with caramel sweetness. Barely hazy, light orange, gold. Pungent pine, citrus hops start, slight esters intrude, giving way to a sweet finish. Bitterness is noticeable in the aftertaste. Light-medium body, medium carbonation. A good IPA. Appears to be an english yeast that highlights malt as well as the hops.
