Bottle by Bill. Love this version. The barrel did this beer nicely from what I remember of the regular a few weeks back. Smooth mellow barrel and bourbon. Some vanilla and dark chocolate. Nice body, silky and nice to drink. Still could even mellow more, would age nicely for a bit.

(22oz bomber bottled 2-11-09 :: Rating #1300) espresso brown in color with light tan head. Nose of fudge, cola, nuts. Taste of bourbon, barrel, fudge, sweet dark chocolate, brown sugar, vanilla, with a medium body thatís very creamy. Excellent!!

Bottle thanks to thirdeye11. Pours with a thick brown body and a small off-white head. Aroma of alcohol, barrel, chocolate, vanilla and brown sugar. Taste is brown sugar, chocolate, vanilla, oak and goodness. Light bubbles, well attenuated for a big imperial stout.

Big props to Maltzilla for breaking this one open. One of 96 bottles made.
A: Pours a deep dark black hue with a small tan head. No real retention but it does grow some legs.
S: Heavily roasted malt, bordering on charred. Hints of dark chocolate, coffee, and bourbon.
T: Bold roast in the flavor as well. Chocolate and espresso lead the way. There is some oak and bourbon notes as well. Rather bold and aggressive. No real sweetness to be detected.
M: Rather full in body, rich, dark, fairly bitter from start to finish

Dark pour with a thin tan head. Aroma is roasty with light oaky tannins. Barrel character seemed slightly faded. Roast, bitter chocolate, and coffee. Bourbon and vanilla were muted. Overall still a solid beer worthy of the hype

Draft sample @ Brewvival on 2/27/10. Big black pour with a 2 finger tan head.... beauty to look at. Some Bourbon on the nose - would like a bit more out of it.... big creamy body with notes of vanilla, oak, Bourbon, and sweet malts. finishes with a bit more Bourbon. I prefer the non BA Blackbeerd.

Bottle courtesy of a generous RB at tpd975ís throwdown in December, 2009. Pours a cola brown to black with thin tan head. Aroma is sweet and malty with notes of chocolate, bourbon, vanilla, oak, roast, caramel, hints of brown sugar and toffee. Flavor is also sweet and malty with notes of chocolate, roast, bourbon, wood, vanilla, hints of toasted coconut and toffee. Medium to full body with a boozy finish.

This pours deep darkness with amber edges and thin tan head. The aroma is mild with roasted to burnt malts moving slowly into caramel malts and faint chocolate. The taste begins with modest amounts of oak and bourbon notes bleeding into dark roastiness, chocolate and a mild sense of caramel malts. It ends with lingering burnt malts, some chocolate malts and a faint level of caramel malts.

Pours black. Nose is sweet malts, chocolate, coffee, roasted grain, some dark fruit esters, hints of bourbon. Flavor is tiny bourbon, dry wood, sweet sweet malts, roasted grain, mild smoke, cocoa powder and coffee grinds.
