22oz bomber shared at our Epic Chicago Tasting and poured into BA taster. A - Pours black, very little head, thing ring, no lacing. S - Dark fruits, chocolate, hot alcohol. The alcohol here was a little too much for me. T - Same as nose...too much alcohol...not hidden well at all. Dark fruits, chocolate, some spice, brown sugars. M - Light to medium, not as much body as I was expecting with a slightly dry finish. D - Meh. Average, at best. Way better stouts right down the street at any Binny’s.

Bottled. A black beer with a brown shine under a thin brown head. The aroma has strong notes of roasted malt as well as some notes of soy sauce. The flavor is sweet malty combined with notes of roasted malt and a bit of alcohol, leading to a dry and roasted finish.

22 oz, bottled 2/10. Dark brown with tan froth and lacy speckles. Nose is dark chocolate, coffee, molasses and hay. Milky medium body with moderate carb. Taste is malt and mocha fading to grass and licorice. The roasty notes are balanced nicely by the sweet chocolate. Very good.

A: The pour is black with a nice viscosity and a finger’s worth of dark tan foam. S: There is a very roasty quality to the nose which is not surprising. A decent amount of sweet, milk chocolate underneath and quite a bit of coffee as well. T: Plenty more roast upon taking the first sip. The high roast leads to a strong sensation of coffee and a decent bitterness. Some chocolate flavor, but not all that intense. M: Medium body with a fair amount of carbonation, maybe a bit more than usual for an RIS, but not overcarbonated. D: A pretty nice imperial stout. No detectable alcohol and quite easy to drink, even with an ABV at better than 9%.
