Bottled@The Chriso rock the roof down pre-GBBF tasting. Deep ambery brown colour with small brown head. Aroma is fruits, wood, caramel, some fruits and mild toffeeish notes. Flavour is roasted malts, toffee, mild dark berries, some slight coffeeish notes as well. Pleasant imperial stout.

Bottled. A black beer with a brown shine under a thin brown head. The aroma has strong notes of roasted malt as well as some notes of soy sauce. The flavor is sweet malty combined with notes of roasted malt and a bit of alcohol, leading to a dry and roasted finish.

22 oz, bottled 2/10. Dark brown with tan froth and lacy speckles. Nose is dark chocolate, coffee, molasses and hay. Milky medium body with moderate carb. Taste is malt and mocha fading to grass and licorice. The roasty notes are balanced nicely by the sweet chocolate. Very good.

A: The pour is black with a nice viscosity and a finger’s worth of dark tan foam. S: There is a very roasty quality to the nose which is not surprising. A decent amount of sweet, milk chocolate underneath and quite a bit of coffee as well. T: Plenty more roast upon taking the first sip. The high roast leads to a strong sensation of coffee and a decent bitterness. Some chocolate flavor, but not all that intense. M: Medium body with a fair amount of carbonation, maybe a bit more than usual for an RIS, but not overcarbonated. D: A pretty nice imperial stout. No detectable alcohol and quite easy to drink, even with an ABV at better than 9%.

not the ba version bottle 2/23/10 shared by dak on 3/21/10. pours on the brownish side of black with a thin tan head. the coffee in this seems vegetal to me... mixed with green peppers, peppery spice, caramel, savory smoke, roast, cocoa and hop dryness. the flavor is the same with a briny aftertaste. the body is a touch thin but not bad... 7/3/7/3/15/3.5

Been sitting on this bottle for a long time. Good RIS, but overrated like so many of these rare beers are. And I don’t mean that as a knock, because there is really no way it could live up to the hype. Just a little thin in body, lacks a really thick maltiness to it. Still, very good.
