Hold on to yer booty, this one packs a punch.Ingredients: Two-Row*, Munich *, Black, Caraffa*, Roasted Barley*, Smoked Malt, Oats* & Extra Special* Malts, Magnum and Palisades Hops, Ale Yeast and tripled filter water. *organic

2008 Vintage. Poured a clear mahogany color with a beige head. Nice and roasty sweet malt aroma. Some hoppiness and light alcohol in the nose. Roasted malt flavor to start things off. Chocolate notes. Hoppy finish. Medium bodied with a lively mouth feel.

Bottle sampled on 7/10/08: Pours a transparent dark mahogany with a wispy, spotty-lacing off-white head. Aroma of toasty dark caramel and a touch of milk chocolate. Body starts fairly full and earthy dark caramely sweet with nice milk chocolate and roasty coffee notes. Finishes drier, bittersweet and crisp with a touch of warmth. A pretty well-balanced imperial stout.

Bottle shared at a BeerAdvocate tasting. Black in color with a tan head. Aroma is roast, smoke, and chocolate. Flavor is pretty nice, more of the same, with coffee and hops as well. Palate about medium for the style with a smooth mouthfeel. Overall a solid RIS from SC.

Big thanks to stopbarking for sharing this beer!! Pours black with a short lived tan head. Smell was chocolate, subtle dark figgy fruitiness, and fudge. Taste is nice dark chocolate, hops and some good bitterness to balance. Medium to full body with normal carbonation. Lingering hops in the finish too. Fantastic beer, and its laughbale to think that at the time this was rated, 76% of all Imperial Stouts are rated better than this. Surely this will beging to climb as the hype grows as it is a very enjoyable beer.

Appearance: Pours a dark brown, near black body with a small, tan-colored head. Smell: Many roasted, charred aspects to the predominately black malt-scented aroma with supporting notes of chocolate sauce, molasses, and dark caramel. Taste: Heavily roasted, even charred black maltiness cloud the slightly lesser tastes of bittersweet chocolate morsels, blackstrap molasses, and caramel. Medium-high sweetness present. Small dash of anise precedes the growing roasty bitterness, though it doesn’t manage to supplant the sweetness. Finishes roasty and fairly sweetish. Mouthfeel: Medium-full body. Medium carbonation. Smooth mouthfeel that flows just right on the tongue, a very important facet of the style, mind you. Drinkability: Mmm-mm! When done right, I find an Imperial Stout to be vastly enjoyable. Thankfully, this is one of those. Keep it up, Coast.

UPDATED: MAR 26, 2009 Incredibly drinkable for a RIS. Roasty and chocolately, but not chewy really at all. Almost a porter mouthfeel and drinkability. Until you have a full pint and you are reminded that it is indeed at an imperial.

Almost black. Rich dark chocolate and dark fruit nose. Rich, creamy, decadent brew with lots of chocolate, subtle coffee complexity and dark fruitiness. Dry finish. We went back for more.

Draught at Mellow Mushroom, Charleston. Rich black with small tan head. Rich aroma of tar, berries, and dark chocolate. Medium carbonation and fun mouthfeel. Long lingering roastiness. Rich creamy body with lots of coffee, dark dark chocolate, smooth and robust, and very very nice! One of SC’s best brews.
