4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle share with xdtfx. Pours almost total black with minimal head. Nice carbonation. Coffee bourbon roasted malts and some hops deliver a delicious flavor. The alcohol shows up much more as it warms. A delicious brew to be sure.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
2011 Bottle. Super thick black wax showed a rusty cap underneath. Uh oh. Pours ink black with quickly fading medium beige head. Smell is thick tarry malts, chocolate, sugary residue , hints of dark fruits. Taste is a very mellowed out chocolate, coffee, spot on sweetness, a bit of char, some anise. Really just a smooth finish. Finishes medium to full, medium sweet with the creamy residual mouthfeel. Not overly complex but quite nice.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottled on 02/23/10
Tasted on 1/7/13 from a 22oz bomber bottle obtained in a trade quite a while ago. Pours extremely dark brown with an average brown head that very slowly recedes to average lace. The nose is super dark with tons of coffee, dark chocolate, milk chocolate, a touch of smoke, and an almost fruity molasses note. The flavor is the same with the coffee, chocolate, cocoa, molasses, smoke, and just a touch of vanilla and nice bitterness. The body is full with average but soft carbonation and a long bitter dark chocolate and coffee, lightly smoked, and hint of vanilla finish.

2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
UPDATED: NOV 22, 2012 2010 vintage. 22 oz. bottle, sent from cory_king (thanks Cory), pours pitch black with a thick tan head. Aroma of smoky malts, coal, chalk and bitter cocoa. Flavour is very coal-like, with a chalky-feel. There is some light smoked malt, a bit of roast, and loads of coal and chalk. No sweetness or roast - this is really overtaken by the coal and chalk. Full-bodied and thick like tar. A drinkable, but flawed impie. I wonder if this is what they were going for.

2010 vintage shared at the Star Wars tasting. Big thanks to Mike (mikeincharleston) for the bottle! 22 oz bottle served in a Deschutes tulip. Bottled 12/21/10.
A: Pours a very dark black with a thin mocha head forming on the pour. Subsides to thin cap that leaves minimal sheets of lace behind.
S: Roasted malts with a subtle dark fruit note in the background. Definitely sweet figs and more earthy dates. Dried oats and some light chocolate.
T: The roasty of this guy is crazy. Roasted malts and dried oats. Dark fruits with a dark chocolate bitterness. There is some light smoke to this and the finish reminiscent of sweet malts.
M: Medium to heavy bodied with a below average carbonation level with a heavy drying from the roasted malts.
O: Definitely a solid stout. Not out of this world, but it was aged nicely and I look forward to trying a fresh batch of this.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle shared at Woodshop 7. Pours black with a light-brown head. Kind of a standard boring RIS, with your typical coffee/chocolate interplay and maybe a little smokiness and bread. Doesn’t stand out whatsoever.
